    Nao - Contestant

    Nao - Contestant

Nao believes that the medium chooses her. Known widely as a performance artist, her work also encompasses video installation, visual art, filmmaking, and writing. She has presented in Galleries, Museums, Universities and underground sites across the globe, most notably at the New York Museum of Modern Arts, the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, and Sundance Film Festival 2008, 2010. Nao’s work is aligned with feminist art, and often explores the intersections of race and cultural identity. An alum of San Francisco Art Institute, Nao currently teaches New Media and Live Art at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in upstate New York. Nao is represented by Baer Ridgway Exibitions in San Francisco.

Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.' - Isaac Asimov

I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates, who said, "... I drank what?"

I actually liked Nao! I studied a bit of her work in a graduate seminar on race and gender in contemporary performance art. I think she's done a lot of really interesting work. I don't think it really translated so well into this format, especially in this past week's "shocking" episode, but I'm still a fan.
And I sing sometimes like my life is at stake because you're only as loud as the noises you make.

Not a Nao fan - or a fan of performance art. At least not now. The show - and posts like these - are helping me open my eyes. I suppose I would like to learn more.
