Winfield Fun Barn in 'Trading Spouses'
Winfield's Quail Valley Fun Barn will be in two episodes of "Trading Spouses" at 7 p.m. today and 7 p.m. next Monday on Fox Kansas, Channel 24/Cable 4.
The episodes involve the Dan O'Brien family of Evergreen, Colo., who have been performing country music at the Winfield barn for the past two years. When they were chosen to be on "Trading Spouses," they insisted that part of their segment be filmed at Winfield.
"It was fantastic. You've heard of the running of the bulls in Spain. We had the running of the chickens for the show," said Floid McCord, who co-owns the barn with Marilyn Alberbing.
Dan O'Brien and his children, Kyle, 14, and Mara, 11, filmed two days in November at the barn with Michelle Shackleford of Jamestown, Va., who had switched places with his wife, Jeanette, for the show.
McCord, who is emcee at the barn, is also in the two episodes. "I'm the guy in the shorts, gold Western boots and frog shirt," he said with a laugh. "I have a thing about frogs."
After filming, the 75-member Los Angeles-based film crew voted the Quail Valley Fun Barn the best location shoot for "Trading Spouses" this season, McCord said.
One crew member even booked the barn for his wedding.
"I asked him why he wanted to come all the way from California to Kansas for his wedding, and he said everything out there is fake but that everything here is real," McCord said.
