Janet's family made me so very sad. Even the house looks sad. It's as if a cloud of unhappiness hangs over it. Those kids look as if they've been miserable for so long that they've forgotten what it's like to be any other way. I believe that's the reason they couldn't open up to MaryBeth. This wasn't the typical "grumpy teen" attitude. This was different. It seems they'd just lost the will to reach towards anyone that might bring them joy, particularly when they know it will be short lived. What will they know about raising a loving family when they have kids of their own?
