Marcel...Big head, or just big hair? So does he have what it takes to actually win? This is the first time he's won immunity you know. I personally hope to see him in the finals.

bflix! I am also trying to decide if I think he has what it takes to win. He seems very immature to me to win but he seems to be the only one taking any chances. I kind of think he will at least make top 4. | |

He may make the top four but if sous chefs are involved as in last year's finale, Marcel is going to be in Tiffani's shoes. I expect that his one friend, Elia, is going to be one of his competitors.

If Marcel makes the finals, the effect of sous chefs is up in the air. You are absolutely right that there are instances where a show's "rejects" come back to help in a final, and when having to help a finalist that was very much disliked, have screwed the finalist. That certainly happened to Tiffani to a degree last year (although I don't think it was two hung over sous chefs that led her to lose. I think it was her arrogance shining through in menu planning and presentation, and Harold being a better finalist) But there are also cases (on other shows) where rejects have come back to help a finalist that wasn't well liked, and they've been fantastic helpers. Some people are just grown up enough to recognize that it's not all about them, and some level of professionalism will take them further in the long run then a petty grudge will.

According to Tom Colicchio the results of the food dishes were too close to call and it came down to "likeability" which Harold won 4 - 0 w/the sous chefs and 93% to 7% w/the tv audience. No, Dave and Stephen certainly didn't make her lose. Hung over or not, both Dave and Stephen came through for her. Dave with his dessert, which Tiffani tried to claim credit for, and Stephen who made the Artichoke Risotto, which was Colicchio's favorite dish, certainly kept Tiffani competitive. Then there is the ability to run a kitchen. Assuming Cliff does not make the final four, Sam is the only one with the experience to run a kitchen being an executive chef. Current fan favorites Marcel, Elia and Ilan are all line chefs and used to taking orders. However, as it may work out if there are "helpers", it may come down to just one helper per finalist, thus being able to run a kitchen is not necessary. It will be teamwork that helps determine the winner.

#1 He's young. It's not his fault by any stretch, but he's young and inexperienced. Marcel seems to feel that his involvement in molecular gastronomy automatically makes up for the years of varried food experience others bring to the table. Yes, he's working for Joel Robuchon and that's something to be incredibly proud of, but he's not Joel Robuchon. #2 His youth and inexperience come with a side of superiority. From his own bio: What would be your dream job as a chef? To teach young aspiring cooks He's 26. Yes, you know how it is when the 26 year olds come down to teach the youngsters all there is to know about how the world works. Especially when so much that makes a great chef comes from experience and not books or school. #3 His lack of understanding when he loses. This is the most irritating thing to me while watching the show. His only amazement seems to be in that he didn't win - there's no thought as to why not. While it's good to be confident, I am not convinced that Marcel is under the impression that he can learn a single thing from anyone involved with Top Chef. To be honest, I think Marcel is not so much interested in being a chef as he is in being a personality. I think he wants to be the next Chef-Personality but wants to do it with a high-end spin. Most of the others (read: not Michael) are serious about a career in food. Marcel just wants food to work for him so he can preach to the masses from on high.

Yes, he's young, but he has been much more mature in handling very rough critique than most of his seniors. Betty is a horrible b**ch and poor sport, Mia to a lesser degree, Elia had a meltdown over losing, Sam makes little comments about the others. I think that Marcel has handled himself very well under the pressure. I sure don't get all the hate.
