Top Chef Holiday Special

The Top Chef Holiday Special, airs this Thursday (Dec. 6th) at 9:00 p.m. on Bravo (with repeated re-runs thereafter).

"The chefs from all three seasons come to the Top Chef kitchen and meet Santa."

There's a brief clip on the Bravo website. I only watched it once, so I probably didn't catch everything, but I'm pretty sure I saw the following:

Season 1 ~ Tiffani and Stephen
Season 2 ~ Betty, Marcel and Josie
Season 3 ~ Tre, CJ and Sandee

Plus Padma....and Santa.

Re: Top Chef Holiday Special

They showed it tonight, after Project Runway.
I thought it was only going to be a preview, but they showed the entire 90 minute show.
It was a pretty good show in all, except that it seemed they were grasping for worthy contestants.
I don't really consider Betty, Josie, or Sandee to be real 'Top Chef' caliber, although they were previously on the show, it wasn't like any of them showed much ability on their regular season.
It came down to a pretty close battle between Tre and Tiffani, with the eliminated chefs working on teams for them, although it was not set up to be that way.
CJ was a worthy competitor, but Stephen and Marcel surprisingly fizzled out early, along with the aforementioned ladies.

Yes, I woke up this morning and saw that TiVo had recorded a Top Chef episode. It just had a generic description, but it turned out to be the holiday special.

I watched it while I was getting ready this morning, so I wasn't 100% focused on it (I'll have to rewatch it later and pay closer attention), but I also was surprised at how poorly Stephen fared.

Still it was nice to get a new episode! I can't wait for Season 4.

My TiVo got it, too. I think someone at Bravo ops center messed up and fed the wrong show. The overnight show should have been part of the TC marathon leading up to the holiday show.

CJ is a worthy competitor, but Marcel fizzled out early?

CJ and Marcel were both in the top three for the quickfire challenge (along with Betty, CJ won). Then in the elimination round, CJ was in the bottom four, but had the pass from winning the QFC. CJ and Marcel were both eliminated in the final four.

So how can CJ be worthy, but Marcel fizzled out?

Re: Top Chef Holiday Special

I was happy with this lovely reunion. I really wanted Harold to beat Tiff during season 1, but have since (after seeing her in the reunions and both "smackdowns") come to like her, and have always respected her as a chef. This was her time to win. Glad to see how well Tre did. I hope they keep having these!

Agree. It seems they brought back the "one bad dish" people as opposed to those who rode the middle ground during their shows. I'm sure the extra air time doesn't hurt for the ones raising investor money.

Glad to see the Tiffanator win. While I know she can be a total bitch she is a great chef and she seems able to create and present well. Looks as if she was also working on her people skills.

Re: Top Chef Holiday Special

The special was pretty entertaining and gave me a great fix until Season 4. My only gripe was that they brought back Betty from Season Two who holds the all-time callout record for bottom two/three in the Quickfire Challenges. I knew she'd be a mess this challenge. I would have rather they brought back anyone else from Season 2 in her place.

It was good to finally see a win for the ladies.

Re: Top Chef Holiday Special

I was really happy to see Tiffany win this one. She is probably, hands down, the best female chef that has been on the show. I also disagree with some of the other chefs that were brought back, not really part of the elite class. I was really disappointed in Stephen, it seems that actually cooking is just not his thing. I knew that from past shows but he really tanked in this special and I felt kind of bad for him. Overall, I was happy to have a new Top Chef and look forward to the new season.
