8/7 Top Chef Masters 5 - Show Discussion **Spoilers**

"Sex, Greed and Murder" - The master chefs create dishes based on "a soap opera staple". Hmm...

    I'm watching right now.

Lynn and Sang are still my favorites.

I don't like Franklin as much.

I didn't even realize this show had started until I saw it here!

These chefs seem like a nice bunch, but I'm not familiar with any of them. I felt kind of bad that it didn't seem like any of the DOOL people were foodies. It seemed more like they were serving to a general audience and I wonder if they would have strategized differently if they had known more about the audience they were catering to.

I'm looking forward to finding out more about how the sous chefs factor into this competition. Jumping in at the third episode, I was a bit confused about how they fit into this season.

If you go to the link below at BravoTV.com, you can see the sous chef competitions that precede each episode.

There's also a thread (stickied up top in the forum) for discussing all the online sous chef videos.

So the other competitions with the sous chefs don't get aired on TV at all?
Hmmm. That may actually drive me to watch online since it seems to be a big part of this series. I always skipped Last Chance Kitchen because I didn't care that much, and felt that they told me all I needed to know on the regular show. They did recap the sous chef stuff on this show, but it felt like I was still missing info.

I can watch the sour chef competitions On Demand on Cox. They are available pretty quickly.

I watched the latest sous chef battle right after I watched this week's episode.

And I really like this change. I hope they keep it.

I like the sous chef challenge, too. They work as hard as the chefs.

That was a very tough crowd. I suspect they are all on gluten free diets or some strict eating plan. Which is entirely believable since they are on TV everyday and have to pay critical attention to their appearance. Movie actors have time between films to relax that a bit and then go into overdrive when they get a movie.

    They were clearly not foodies.

Though the judges even commented that Odettes ravioli was bland, I sure would like to try that! It looked very good and not designed to offer a punch but rather major comfort food. I have seen these made before. The actors probably ate egg whites for breakfast given the reaction they gave to the runny yolk.

The judge make the call anyway so it didn't really matter.

Comcast On Demand also has the Battles of the Sous Chefs.

Great season! I like the sous chefs twist a lot. And the chefs all seem to be having a good time - I enjoy their camaraderie.

Loved the 30-minute time-outs this time (jail, in a coma in a hospital bed, dead at a desk) - very fun.

And when Curtis commented negatively on a dish, loved the response from the chef ( I forget which one) who said something like, "And this is coming from someone wearing a purple sweater."
