    Ash Fulk

    HOMETOWN: Pleasant Hill, Calif. – currently resides in New York City
    PROFESSION: Sous Chef at Trestle on Tenth
    CULINARY EDUCATION: Self Taught
    FAVORITE SIMPLE SUMMER RECIPE: Grilled Corn on the Cob with Mayonnaise – with a sweet tea to wash it down.



    Ash currently serves as the Sous Chef at Trestle on Tenth in New York City. He began his cooking career in Oakland, California and quickly realized he was a natural in the kitchen. He enjoys working with foods that are regional and seasonal and follows the motto "if it grows together, it goes together." Ash loves cooking with leeks and making custards, and some of his favorite chefs include Dan Barber and Claudia Fleming.

    I like Ash. He seems a bit easy going at this point.

    Why did he look so surprised when they called his name in the Quick Fire round as one of the three favorites?

    He turned to the person next to him like he needed to know for sure if he had heard correctly.

    Because the dish he was making failed. He was making Ice Cream. Since it didn't freeze in time, he called it custard and served it as custard. He lucked out that the texture was right for custard. It appears he wasn't sure it would work.

    But give him credit, every single other constent that I can think (including Top Chef Masters) when the Ice Cream failed, they served it as Ice Cream and got dinged for it.

    So to have your dish fail and be in the Top 3 is pretty damn awesome! I think he was perfectly ok with not winning the challenge.
