Top Chef 14 - Charleston (premieres Dec 1st 2016) - News and Speculation

Top Chef Season 14 Location Revealed | The Daily Dish

Season 13 of Top Chef just found its winner, so that means it's time for the rest of us to pack up our knives and go... to the next Top Chef location. And we have the inside scoop on where the Season 14 Cheftestants will be sauteing.

That lucky city is Charleston, South Carolina. Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi and head judge Tom Colicchio, will be back when Top Chef takes on the south later this year, as well as Gail Simmons and Richard Blais to round out that Judges' Table.

Charleston has built up a booming restaurant scene over the past few years, so the chefs should find no shortage of inspiration in this picturesque riverfront metropolis. “Charleston is the perfect location to inject our next batch of chefs," Shari Levine, the executive vice president of current production at Bravo Media, said in a statement. "We know Charleston and are excited by the food, people and possibility it brings with its rich cultural and historical background which has played an important role in shaping South Carolina’s unique cuisine.”

Helen T. Hill, the CEO of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, added, “We are thrilled that Top Chef has chosen Charleston, South Carolina as the site for season fourteen. As the Southeast’s premier dining destination, we look forward to sharing our 300 year culinary heritage with Top Chef’s passionate and devoted viewers.”

Of course, many Bravo fans may already know Charleston and some of its southern gentlemen and ladies very well from watching Southern Charm, which will be returning for its third season on April 4 at 9/8c. We'll have to wait and see if things heat up as much for the Top Chef 14 contestants in Charleston as they tend to do for the Southern Charm gang.

Re: Top Chef 14 - Charleston (premieres Fall 2016) - News and Speculation

They are really cross-promoting that Southern Charm show in these releases...personally I've never seen it:

Here's Your Chance to Be a Diner on Top Chef

Now you can eat all of the delish dishes you see on #TopChef.

It goes without saying that some of the most delicious food you'll ever see appears on Top Chef. Unfortunately, that's just about where your experience with the food ends as you're left to admire the contestants' culinary creations from afar and live vicariously through the fortunate diners who actually get to taste the food themselves.

But what if you could be one of those lucky diners? Well, now's your chance. If you're 21 years or older, just email TopChefCharleston@gmail.com, and you could be on your way to sampling the cuisine cooked up by the Top Chef 14 Cheftestants in no time.

When Top Chef returns later this year, it'll be heading down south to Charleston, which was described as "the Southeast's premier dining destination" with a 300 year culinary heritage" by Helen T. Hill, the CEO of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, when the Top Chef 14 location was revealed in March. You definitely don't want to miss out on that.

We wouldn't mind seeing the Charlestonians of Southern Charm as diners during Top Chef 14. We would just hope that their meal is more successful than this one.

Eh. Not my favorite but he'll be okay. At least he's not that snot from season 5, I forget his name, the food critic who filled in when Gail went on her honeymoon.

And why are they STILL not giving us a premiere date??? Grr...

Top Chef Season 14 Premieres This December: Meet the New Cheftestants

In its upcoming 14th season, Top Chef will be going where it's never gone before. When the culinary competition kicks off with a supersized Season 14 premiere on Thursday, December 1 at 10/9c, not only will we meet eight new cheftestants ready to vie for the coveted title of Top Chef, but we'll also welcome back eight chefs from seasons past, hungry to take home the honor that they weren't able to attain the first time around.

Well, that's some mouth-watering news if we've ever heard it! But before we dig into the full Season 14 cast, you'll have to guess who will be returning from clues provided on Top Chef's Facebook and Instagram pages over the next week. Join in the #TopChef social conversation, and you'll get exclusive hints about the identities of these familiar faces.

But you can meet the new contestants entering the Top Chef competition right here, right now. Think of it as an amuse bouche for Season 14.

    Annie Pettry – Louisville, Kentucky
    BJ Smith – Portland, Oregon
Emily Hahn – Charleston, South Caroline
Gerald Sombright – Marco Island, Florida
Jamie Lynch – Charlotte, North Carolina
    Jim Smith – Montgomery, Alabama
    Silvia Barban –Brooklyn, New York
    Sylva Senat – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

To sweeten the deal, you can meet the new cheftestants in the above sneak peek of the Season 14 premiere. You'll soon see that this is one talented and competitive crew made up of James Beard Award nominees, students of some of the most famous chefs of all time, badasses, nerds, and everything in between.

In order to win the grand prize of $125,000 furnished by S.Pellegrino, a feature in FOOD & WINE magazine, a showcase at the annual FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen, and, of course, the coveted title of Top Chef, the cheftestants will have to impress an illustrious panel of judges, including host Padma Lakshmi, head judge Tom Colicchio, and Gail Simmons, as well as new judge and Top Chef Masters alum Graham Elliot.

Along the way, some of the biggest culinary stars of today will also serve as guest judges, such as Daniel Humm, William Guidara, Jeremiah Tower, Dominique Ansel, Sean Brock, Frank Lee, Richard Blais, Chris Cosentino, Michael Voltaggio, Hugh Acheson, Nilou Motammed, Mike Lata, John Currence, Alexander Smalls, Michael Cimarusti, Michael Solomonov, Francisco Ruano, Ray Garcia, and Ricardo Munoz Zurita.

This season, the cheftestants will be heading down to Charleston, South Carolina, and as such, they will be challenged in the best of southern cuisine, such as cooking for barbecue king Rodney Scott to the soundtrack of Darius Rucker, paying tribute to Edna Lewis, and firing up some shrimp and grits. One sure-to-be-unforgettable challenge will task the cheftestants with cooking for culinary legends in order to win the chance to serve the winning dish at the James Beard House in New York. Yes, the dreaded Sudden Death Quickfires will make a return as well.

If your fave cheftestant doesn't end up taking home the top prize, don't you worry. You can always vote for him or her to win the title of "Top Chef Fan Favorite" on Bravotv.com. The winner will receive $10,000 furnished by S.Pellegrino and will be announced on finale night during Watch What Happens Live.

For now, keep those guesses coming about who will be returning to Top Chef!

    1. S. Pelligrino must be selling a LOT of wine.

    2. Graham Elliott has landed on an upscale show with a side trip last season to Cooks or Cons on the Food Network.

    3. I like new faces so hope the old faces aren't the drama queens/kings of past seasons.

    4. Scary sudden death quickfires return.

I wonder if they filmed during the muggy summer heat in Charleston, S.C. Like the Palm Springs desert, we can watch them sweat while cuddling up in a blanket on a cool December evening. Please...shrimp and grits only once. I've seen that featured by anyone claiming to be a southern chef or cook on every cooking competition show lately.

I love Charleston and am excited for this season. I'm happy to see that Richard Blais may not be as featured as he's been the past few seasons. I liked Richard as a contestant, not so much as a judge.

Anxious to start figuring out the returnees.

I watched the 15 min teaser on Saturday and they start off with the newbies in a quick fire while they introduce the oldies. The oldies will then work a quick fire and the one on the bottom of each group will do a cook off and one will go home. They cut off with a teaser of who will win the newbie quick fire. It was fun to see the introductions then have the oldies watch and comment on the newbies during their quickfire.

Hope this peak bodes well for a great season.
