Re: Survivor Micronesia: Interview with Erik - "The dumbest thing I could have done."

Also wanted to say, that comment about Joel...the angry dad with dinner not ready....Is that coming from his own experiences at home? My dad would never have gotten angry if dinner were late, so that description would never have occurred to me...but my college roommate's abusive dad would get furious, throw the food, literally. Saw it myself.
I also think it's a good description of Joel. Wonder if he does steroids. In those clips where he's dragging Chet through the challenge he looks like the Incredible Hulk on a bad day.

The big guys get hungry. That was one of the main complaints about James in his China season - practically everyone mentioned he was short-tempered and moody all the time because he was hungry. When you have all those muscles you need a heck of a lot more calories to get through the day, and the big guys feel it more.

Oh I believe under the starvation conditions of the island that is true, but Erik was referring to a "dad" in a normal American setting as being that irritable because dinner was late (have a glass of milk if you are that hungry, good grief), which I thought spoke to his own background.
That is, would you consider it a "normal" dad thing to be that irritable if dinner wasn't ready when he was ready to eat? It wouldn't have been in my family growing up, but seemed to be in his.

My dad is a wonderfully sweet and precious man without a mean bone in his body but he gets really nasty when he's hungry. Some people are just like that. I think that was just Erik's way of saying something positive about Joel's behavior. As far as Erik is concerned, Ithink he is a very sweet and humble and gracious guy. I thought he was sweet but a bit annoying until I saw him with the native people when he won the reward. He was so sweet with them in his interactions. I really liked that he treated them as equals and wanted to do things with them rather than treating them like they are quaint simple people like I've seen others do in the past not really interacting with the people.
