| Gosh, I'd hate to see that. I like to see all of the beautiful island locations. I don't want to see people huddled up in parkas in survival tents on an ice shelf somewhere. Sorry maersk, I just think it would be rather boring. ![]()

| I'll have to agree with Star on this one. I like the tropical settings, I don't think they're boring at all. A cold weather survivor locale doesn't offer much in the way of hardships, except for food-finding and staying warm. No bugs, thunderstorms, contaminated water, animals slithering around...and no opportunity for half-naked people, which I'm sure doesn't hurt the ratings one bit. I'm afraid it would be nothing but a group of people shivering around a fire, with maybe some ice-fishing. Just my opinion, though. ![]()

| I'd love to see it. Not when it's wintertime of course, but it'd be a nice change for the game. I hope Survivor watchers could do without the half naked ness for one season. ![]()

well considering that theyd film in the arctic summer, (and on the mainland, not out on some ice floe like some people here seem to think) the contestants wouldent have to really worry about staying warm (except at night, and even then, if they had a good shelter and coats, it wouldent matter much) and you DO have to boil your water in the arctic (at least in some parts of nunavut & greenland) if they take their water from a river or stream, as there are high levels of certain minerals that could cause blindness or serious vomiting. if they take their water from ice or a well, then they should do fine. i think a cold weather survivor would be HARDER to win than a tropical survivor anyday. if anything, youd see who the weak people are when they start whining about how "barren" and "harsh" the place is ("oh man, its too cold here...and its in the summer!....im not used to 50 degrees in the summer!") in the first couple episodes. the strong ones who can bear the misquitoes, daily meals of arctic char, whale blubber & seal meat, and chilly nights, will be pretty fun to watch, and the challenges could get really harsh. and yea, the tropical settings are nice to look at, but aside from a few seasons (africa, australia, the amazon) its been DONE TO DEATH!!! an arctic season would be a refreshing change of pace, and if the ratings do end up lower than those of the "tropical" survivors, then they can say "well we gave it a try and the people apparently dident like it" and go back to doing the same old tropical island schtick, cause at least they will have tried a change of pace... yes, this survivor would separate the men from the boys (or the girls from the women), so to speak... of course thats just what i think... | |

| Arctic Summer Survivor would be interesting. One difference that would impact the game, sunlight 22hrs a day! |

| You should really boil water in the wilderness everywhere nowadays. I know someone who got giardia canoeing above the Artic Circle one summer, drinking one cup from the middle of a pristine seeming lake (although as one fellow camper didn't quite phrase it, an Alaskan lake is nothing but dilute beaver urine). Just got back from a trip to Belize---lots of mini-islands (cayes) with fish etc., lots of mtns. inland, and even lots of Mayan ruins, often quite deserted. Very underpopulated espeically inland, lots of beautiful scenery with rivers and forest, but there are fire ants, rainstorms, and in winter in the mtns potentially quite cool nights to make it "challenging". Similar to the Panama variants of course since it is near there, but at least they speak English for the comfort of the production staff. I like the idea of a northwest US site.... there are lots of mtn. areas with lakes etc., that are warm enough in the daytime for shorts if not bikinis. If they did it after hunting season started they could even let them try to catch deer or moose. In Wallowa County, Oregon , there are a lot of deserted high peak areas, forested but with lakes for water. Nez Perce history for their "local color" bits, plus the whole cowboy thing. There are black bears but no grizzlies, and cougars have recently returned to the area for a little drama. I can see some our Survivor actor wannabes having their food caches broken into by bears. a lot of the land belongs to the govt., in Forest Service or Park categories, but I'm sure they could work something out! |

| I have to say, anyone who thinks an Arctic Survivor is a good idea has never experienced truly cold weather. I have lived in cold climates all my life, and no one in their right mind would deliberately subject themselves to, say, the minus 52 (yes, FIFTY-TWO, but of course that's with the windchill) that we've felt up here. Also, it's simply not practical. There's no food to forage for that you don't have to kill first (if you could even find an animal to hunt - geese fly south for the winter and aboriginal people have special hunting and trapping rights - you can't just go up there and start shooting). Besides, you don't want a bunch of dimwits trying to hunt animals anyway - assuming they are not experienced hunters, plus the fact that they probably wouldn't be given guns - they're apt to simply wound some poor animal or more likely, just hurt themselves. Fishing? They would have to ice fish, so now you're looking at them having to somehow put up a shack (oh yeah, you need a shack when you're out on the frozen water at those temperatures) and make sure nobody ends up in the water. In Panama, if you fall in the water, you can just swim back to your boat with no harm done - up north, heeellllooo hypothermia. PWS, your northwestern U.S. area sounds nice, but it sounds too much like a plain ol' camping holiday. Maybe it would be a challenge for someone like Paris Hilton - sort of a Simple Life meets Survivor kind of thing. ![]()

| It would be interesting to see them deal with the cold conditions instead of the heat, etc. But I agree with some of the other people, that it just wouldn't work to have an Arctic survivor. For most people, the cold is much harder to deal with than the heat. And plus, I don't think ANYONE would go on that Survivor.

| we live in the north woods of wisconsin. i use to think it would be fun for survivor to film somewhere like here. bears, pumas, wolves, and nasty mosquitos, and biting flies. especially in the summer months like july. it is unbearable to walk through the woods then. bug spray doesn't really help. but i also think the food would be too plentiful. so many small mammals, tons of berries and nuts. and all the lakes are full of those little shiners. not sure what kind of fish that is, but they are small and you get a bite just about every time you put your rod in. granted they are not big, but you can catch them all day long. it would be fun to see the camp torn apart by black bears, and see them covered in huge fly bites, but i just think they would be eating too good. you could do it in the winter if it was an experiment to see how long they can stand the cold before they go completey insane. lol i'm almost there. |
