I don't think he's accepted that human foibles are in him and everybody else. It's kind of pitiful, really.
I knew someone like Phillip growing up. He was one of those guys that wasn't as smart as most, wasn't as athletic as most, etc. But it's what he wanted for himself. So he tried over hard, but he never reached his own expectations, and unfortunately, was subjected to the criticism of others (often brutal even). Having been bullied, criticised and put down on a regular basis, he became over-sensitive to criticism and more and more protective of his ego. As he became an adult, he was never satisfied with a "regular" job and was always trying to 'prove' himself to others. He fell into get-rich quick schemes, often took on dangerous jobs to get money quick and looked for self worth in grandiose ways. When anyone approached him to help him, he would quickly deny he was in over his head, and instead, go into a long ramble about the brilliance of his next plan, trying to show you how smart he was. He was definitely delusional, and he would get angry and belligerent if you tried to explain, even gently, that he was wrong about something.

Phillip kind of reminds me of this guy. Whether they are similar in their experiences at all I have no idea. But I can't help but relate the two in my mind because they are similar as adults, so I think that is why I pity Phillip sometimes for others laughing at him. I hate that they are both the kind of people who seem unable to say "I was wrong", or "I can't", but do have some understanding about why they are like that. I just don't think Phillip has a place on this show.

I do feel sorry for Phillip. I think I mentioned before, that I believe that at some point (in real life) he was highly regarded and that changed probably through no fault of his own. Now, in general, he is just under appreciated. Survivor is a way for him to "impress" new people and perhaps be highly regarded again.
I really hope he wins fan favorite. ((( ducking )))

Jeez.......I hope not! I want the little nerdy guy to win fan favorite.

If Phillip wins it, I fear it will just increase his obnoxiousness.

I doubt Phillip will win fan fave, and I hope he doesn't. His ego and self-delusion are big enough as it is.

If Phillip does win fan favorite ... it will be an interesting reunion show as he explains to everyone how he achieved this feat while orchestrating the win for whomever wins sole survivor.

Seriously though, I just think if he got a legitimate boost to his confidence, it might help to heal whatever is broken in this guy!

Ok, he wasn't too bad the first several episodes, but Phillip has definitely been sliding a bit into "bat guano crazyland" this last two episodes. I admit that I don't understand what makes him tick - so for me it's kind of like putting together a puzzle that's missing several pieces. I want to understand Phillip and his actions and the reasoning behind said actions. Just when I think I'm getting a feel for his inner workings, he does something and my theories are blasted.

Phillip is PHYSICALLY quite an attractive man. His personality overshadows that, of course. And, he seems to have some sort of a speech problem that he has mostly conquered - I wonder if that was a significant issue when he was younger? It could explain some things...

Corinne had the chance to get rid of Philip and she blew it. I didn't even want to see him as part of the jury, but now it's too late. Just another reason to feed his own ego. Specialist? Please. Annoying? Absolutely. The guy is probably a high school janitor in real life.

I don't CARE to understand his innerworkings; I just accept them and move on.

I could see him being the kind of kid that got beat up a lot after school. I can't begin to imagine who decided to have a child with him. Some people are just wound differently, and you never tend to forget them. I could see him not having a lot of friends throughout his life.

I am one of these weird champions of the underdog(s) ... and I think both Phillip and Cochran are underdogs for different reasons.

Cochran is not as delusional as Phillip. For me, nerds are more tolerable than NUTS.
