I wish John's theory would work out because Jake has always been one of my favorites this season.

I think Jake can really stir things up if he plays it right.
John's scenario is entirely possible and I don't think it would be too difficult for Jake to persuade Jan and Helen that it would be in their best interests to join forces with himself and Penny.

If he is at all aware of Helen's feelings reharding the money not going to someone who doesn't need it, he could easily play on that to persuade her to vote out Brian.

Jake & Penny convince Helen & Jan to join them. Those 4 vote out the other three, and become the F4. Then Penny goes, Jake wins the F3 challenge and takes Helen with him, knowing he'll win.

It could happen. In Cali's bizarro world, maybe. But wouldn't that be FUN?
John, I think that is an excellent plan. I am going to adopt is as my own hope.

I think it is cheesy, however when players see a video from home and assume that someone doesn't need the money. Who knows what a player might do with his or her winnings? Maybe they are well off older people but have a bunch of grandkids to send to college. Maybe they are extended beyond beleif and need to get out of debt. Maybe they want to got back to school. The scenarios are endless. To doom a persons chances by perceived ideas of wealth or lack of need is not fair, imo.

Just thought of a reason why Brian didn't throw the challenge. Jeff made no mention of the fact that the rest of the tribe would be viewing his video with him. Perhaps he was thinking he'd get a solo viewing?

Still can't stand the notion that someone would be voted out because of their status outside the game. Who "needs" the money should not be a consideration at all. Idiots.
When you're ten years old and a car drives by and splashes a puddle of water all over you, it's hard to decide if you should go to school like that or try to go home and change and probably be late. So while he was trying to decide, I drove by and splashed him again. - Jack Handey

I do agree Summer, the winner should be decided on the criteria of how well they played the game.
Unfortunately Lis's vote in response to Tina's warm and fuzzy charity contribution promise led her to the title instead of Colby.

I think MB is aware that the videos can either hurt or help the players. I don't think I've ever seen one as potentially damaging to a person's chances as Brian's was last night.

I was thinking that Brian definitely should have thrown that challenge too, not just because the video could be an embarrassment (which he predicted) and breed resentment with the others (as winning reward challenges almost always does) but that it establishes Brian as a serious threat in challenges. DUMB DUMB DUMB. If he had let Helen win, then Helen would be the new T-Bird (who won the first individual immunity challenge in S3 for no apparent reason except to set herself up as a threat to win challenges instead of as a weak not-so-young woman). At the risk of raising everyone's ire I write:

I really didn't see anything all that wrong with the video. It basically showed a young good looking couple who has not yet realized that there are more important things in life than your body shape and your possessions. Just because it wasn't all flowery and tear filled shouldn't put Brian in the ****er.

What did y'all find so offensive about it?

I didn't find it offensive, Summer, I found it to be a really STUPID move strategically from the perspective of someone who has seen all 5 seasons of Survivor. Other tribemates always get to see the videos from home, dating way back to Greg's goofy sister video (what was up with that girl?). KNOWING that others that Brian is competing against will be watching, his wife CC would have been SMART to have tried to make Brian seem like a nice, sympathetic guy who could use the money, but instead, she did the complete opposite and very well may cost him the game. It was STUPID and shows that 1.) either they didn't do the research and watch prior seasons of the show, which anyone should do before entering a contest, or 2.) Brian didn't communicate the importance of such communications to his wife (and family communications have been used in all 5 seasons so far, or 3.) Brian did communicate with CC about the significance of such communications DURING THE GAME WITH COMPETITORS WATCHING and she still blew it because she's a bimbo extra-ordinaire.

It was the strategic equivalent of Brian shooting himself in the foot in the middle of a footrace. :d'oh

I agree with LG, Summer. I wasn't offended by CC's video, I just thought it was tremendously foolish. I think Brian made it clear in a confessional that he was concerned about the other members of the tribe learning too much about him. He's a crafty one; he's portrayed himself as a nice, charming car dealer, and I'm sure if folks knew he'd done some soft-porn, it could certainly cause folks to go against him because they'd see a side of him he'd rather keep hidden.

I think the only thing that CC could have done to make things worse was if she'd said "Remember what we did on this piano the night before you left?"
