French Survivor canceled after contestant dies

Well, a lot of folks have speculated that Survivor can be dangerous.

I have always speculated this would happen in any of the versions of the series, and it's sad it has. Most likely though this young man had an underlying heart condition that couldn't be easily detected and then combine low food and other factors makes it possible for one to occur.

I know many people complain about how much food is in the current run of the show when it's supposed to be "surviving" BUT I do not mind them getting a few more rations to help curb this risk.

He must have had an underlying heart condition. It isn't like they had been out there that long. Sad

According to the news article I read, it happaned on day 1. Food would not have been an issue at that point. It seems obvious that he had an underlying, undetected heart condition. I had a young male friend who died in a similar fashion after jogging (something he had done several times a week for years). I don't think Survivor caused his death. It was probably something that would have happened the next time he did strenious activity, no matter where he was.

If it happened after a tug-of-war, it might have been triggered by lack of clean water to re-hydrate. T-O-W is horrendously strenuous. I took part in one ONE time, and have no interest in doing it ever again.

We'll never see this on an episode of Survivor because it will never be shown on tv. So I guess we sort of know ahead of time that all of that season's contestants make it through ok.

In the Bulgarian version of Survivor, a contestant in his 50s also died from a heart attack. However, they continued the season and eventually aired it on TV.

You know, I've been watching Bering Sea Gold on Discovery off and on as a filler until Deadliest Catch gets back next month. The gold dredgers on this show make the DC fisherman look like gentlemen in comparison. I mention this because one of them committed suicide this year and the show promoted and teased it on every episode. Each week they made the viewer believe that the incident would occur on that show. In other words, they milked it to the nth degree. I thought it was in the worst taste possible.

It occurred in last week's episode. Fortunately, they did not show it happening; they showed only parts of the funeral service and the throwing of ashes into the sea, but the whole thing has just an anything for ratings ploy, and I won't watch another season.
