I'm not sure if I like Shamar or what. On the one hand, he's a Marine and I identify with that because I have a career Marine for a son. On the other hand, he seems to be a bit belligerent. I'm definitely conflicted.

Bet your son is not too thrilled with this representation of his career choice, if he's in a place to see it!

My son doesn't watch Survivor, so I don't know what his opinion is yet. Does anyone know if Shamar is a current or ex-Marine? (I know, I know, there IS no such thing as an "EX"-Marine).

Like I said, I don't know if Shamar is getting a bad edit, or if he's a jerk or what. Marines are taught to be repectful of others, so I'm very confused by Shamar's actions. However, there are jerks in all professions. I'll just say that, if Shamar were my son, I'd be displeased with his behaviour.

On the thread for the most recent show (where Allie left) Allie is quoted as saying that he's actually WORSE than we are seeing--that there was a 30 min. shouting match at TC.

Wow - what a let down. Here I was all excited about rooting for a nice, "teddy bear" Marine, and he turns out to be an arrogant jerk.

Ok, Shamar seems to be exhibiting some PTSD side effects - lashing out, stressing out, feeling persecuted, etc. Unfortunately, these are very common symptoms and I can easily see why being on Survivor would trigger a PTSD episode.

I agree, and was hoping he'd be voted off so he could go home and get back to his happy place. I don't think sticking around longer is going to be good for him.

    Re: Shamar - Caramoan (Fan)

Sometimes I become extremely upset with the Survivor show "screeners". Yes, we're interested in seeing some odd-ball personalities - like Phillip. HOWEVER, I find it unsettling to watch someone, who truly needs help, melt down on national TV just for ratings. When Brandon was on the first time, I remember stating, flat out, "This kid has major ISSUES and should NOT have been allowed on the show". On the prior "Fans vs Favorites" season, they had a "fan" that almost tried to chop her fingers off, because she was losing control. It isn't amusing, it isn't right and it sure as heck isn't "entertainment".

Shamar has done a few tours in some horrible places. He's obviously still struggling with those experiences. Tossing him into a situation where he's exposed to the elements, starving and cannot trust his tribemates (Marines are passionate about trusting each other) and you are just asking for trouble.
