Oh lord. I hadn't thought that through. People on the show are going to CALL him "Coach". Its practically his name.

I don't know if it will make the bad memories heal or make them even worse.

So much for coach last night, but he can really rally the troop!

Hi, nabrudigam! I didn't come back to this thread until just now so I just saw youir post! I haven't seen last night's show yet but I DVR'd it to see Jimmy Johnson so that will be the first time that I've ever really watched a Survivor episode. I'll have to count on veterans of the show to balance out my cluelessness! I do have a lot of Jimmy Johnson knowledge, though, since I was a huge Cowboys fan growing up.

There was one guy (I have probs with the names at first ) who really had an inordinate amount of hate for him...it was odd. I think it was that Jimmy T guy. Wow! What a volatile dude.

1 episode down, and I kinda like the guy. He seems legit and objective. It's always too hard to say early on, but I hope he lasts awhile.

A few of the oldies seem to hate having Jimmy around. While they probably purposely waited for the fogey season to give Jimmy a fair chance to stick around a while it may have backfired. The young'uns seem far more intrigued by him and they may have kept him around a little longer than the oldies intend to.

Okay-I have to find something to call the older tribe. Some of the people over there can hardly be considered old.

If some of these egos can keep it in check for a while, they'd be wise to use his coaching and team-rallying skills to good use. You don't have to like him, but if he's an asset to your team, keep him until he becomes the liability. I always wonder what we don't see. Is he really annoying or are they just annoyed that a "celebrity of sorts" is playing with them? Pretend he's just a coach, any coach, and use his skills as a team builder and leader. You can't get to the merge as a strong unit if you self-destruct before you get there. That's the beauty of the game. You must work as a team before you work as an individual.

Re: Jimmy Johnson - Nicaragua (Espada)

I think the biggest rub for some of them is the celebrity thing. The sound bite they showed of Marty that stated something like "I look over and see Jimmy Johnson and I want nothing to do with him. I don't even know why he's here". I think a few others may share that sentiment. Add to that the fact that he's the ultimate coach and the notion that some of these alpha males came there with every intention to lead and that makes this a disaster for Jimmy J.

Those that don't share that sentiment simply see him as the fogiest of the fogey tribe-a guy too old to be playing this game. If you're going to dislike him this would seem like the most valid reason.

I remember Jimmy J saying early on that he doesn't need the money, and will be donating it to charity.

I woke up in the middle of the night and turned on the TV to lull me back to sleep. There was Jimmy J in a race car driver's outfit, doing an infomercial for Extenz (sp?) - a male enhancement product. I'm having trouble in my limited mind figuring out why someone famous would do an infomercial like that if they didn't need the money. Not judging . . . JMHO.

Jimmy Johnson and Jammy Joe...we have something in common

But it has nothing to do with that Extenze commercial that he did. Well thanks, now I know that he uses that snake oil to give himself an erection before sex. First Bob Dole doing Viagra, then Mike Ditka doing Levitra, then Mandy Patinkin doing Cialis...now we have JJ doing Extenze commercial. I have not seen it but does he have a constant smile on his face the whole commercial? I think I would find that hilarious.

I think Survivor has lost its luster but I'm watching this year and JJ is the major reason. I very much like him and I hope he makes the merge. If he does and I'm a contestant I'd take him to the final 2 because he doesn't need the million. I want to see how far he can go.
