Clearly added nothing to the storyline, the episode was about the tribe turning on Ben, showing Ben providing for the tribe didn't fit in that. Remember, 504 hours of film cut to 40 minutes. If they show something it is important to that episode or something down the road.

Some aspect of the chicken that led to the feathers that were attached to a fake HII put in place before Shambo rooted around the tree had to have been shown for it to be anything down the road. Shambo missing the idol in the exact location that a fake HII was hid is not something they would have omitted showing us given the amount of time they devoted to her looking for it. They didn't show us any of that. Ben is nuts.

Re showing Ben killing a chicken---they tend not to show the deaths of any warm blooded animals--audience sensibilities, kids watching, etc. It usually happens off screen. But chasing they do show.

The actual blood spurting, chicken flopping.?...there have been chicken deaths, but my impression is the camera "blinks". They killed something early on on screen and there was a big protest.... Since then it's been more people bragging about their skills at it.... Or so I recall. Maybe I'm the one blinking!

Oh sure, but that's why PETG (People for the Ethical Treatment of Geckos) must remain vigilant.

Also, PETT, People for the Ethical Treatment of Termites... much less PETF that usually have at least one sacrificial fish each season!
