    Dan Kay: Survivor Gabon

    Dan Kay

    Age: 32
    Hometown: Boston, Massachusetts
    Occupation: Lawyer

Dan Kay has come a long way from his blue-collar roots in Boston. Born and raised in Walpole, Massachusetts, he was very involved in athletics, especially football, skiing and track. While in high school, Dan played on a varsity football team, which had a long tradition of winning, a tradition that has helped shape his strong work-ethic. He graduated from The University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science & English and later would earn his law degree from Syracuse University College of Law where he was also a member of the Moot Court Honor Society.

Charismatic, hard working and goal oriented, most of Dan's traits were formed from the influence provided by his parents and a select few coaches and teachers. As a young boy, his father became disabled, leaving his mother to care for his family and, eventually, his ill grandmother, all while working as a full-time nurse. In addition, Dan credits his mother's work ethic and unselfish attitude for his strong desire to overcome any obstacles in his career and personal life.

Dan has practiced law in Boston for five years, which helped him to purchase several investment properties. However, dedicating so much of his time to his practice left him depressed and feeling less than fulfilled with his life. Prior to leaving for SURVIVOR, he sold off a number of investments and spent time away from his job, in an effort to focus more on himself and his friends and family. He believes this recent awareness, along with having an increased appreciation for the people in his life rather than material possessions, will help him succeed not only in his personal life, but on SURVIVOR.

Attractive, athletic, single and a lawyer, Dan is set to make a big impression on his competitors. Dan's hobbies include skiing, running, biking, weight training and cooking. Currently, he is training to compete in his first triathlon.

He is single and lives in Boston. His birthdate is June 30, 1976.

Another typical mactor. He'll be edited as a typical alpha male who gets booted right before/after the merge, and will have no true signinficance on the game. Hope he proves me wrong...

To be fair, where the indication he's a mactor?

I mean he's not listed as a "Bartender" or "Waiter". His bio doesn't talk about him wanting to work on TV.

He's yet another "pretty boy" type, sure, but I don't smell model/actor coming off of him.

And anyway, what's so bad about mactors? I mean, other than the fact that most of them go into these shows to try and further enhance their modeling/acting career (which fails miserably, people shouldn't go on reality shows to try and make it into the modeling/acting field, it almost never works) and are never a fan of the show most of the time.

But other than that, mactors can be entertaining. And likable. Or the person you love to hate. Definitely not bad traits to have if you're a reality TV contestant.

Nah, I agree that mactors kind of annoy. But I hardly equate being a lawyer to being a mactor. Unless its a lawyer looking to land a T.V. Court show.

The problem isn't so much what mactors are/do, it's just the fact that reality TV is just so full of them. It gets tiring after a while. Do we really need casts/contestants that are mostly recruited in California bars?

Even still, I don't always loathe the few who honestly put "model" or "actor" as their job. They actually tend to come off as more stable. It's the waiter/bartender/nanny/whatever types (in other words, "barely getting acting work and thus super-desperate for fame") who get to me.

But it's not like the people who actually audition are the most likable. Remember Vanuatu? I'm pretty sure Twila auditioned for the show and wasn't recruited. Not many people liked her. Just imagine if that season was filled with a bunch of Twila's.

And I don't think most recruits are found in California bars. Some people have actual sites casting directors go to, like Sylvia from Fiji. She's an accomplished architect, and I'm pretty sure that the casting directors found her through her job's site. Yau Man was also recruited. This is just a guess, but he probably wasn't found partying in a California bar.
