    Confessional Tallies

I was bored last night so I re-watched all the episodes of Survivor: Guatemala so far and kept a count of the number of confessionals each castaway had. I'm going to keep doing this after every episode and post them in this thread each week. This is just to see if we can find any pattens in the editing and whatnot.

My only criteria for counting confessionals was that in order for a second confessional to be counted, it must happen more than 10 seconds after their first confessional concluded, unless there was another confessional wedged inbetween by someone else, then the second confessional was counted regardless of how much time elapsed inbetween.

    Confessional totals after episode 5:

    Stephanie LaGrossa
    9/4/4/2/4
    TOTAL: 21
    AVG PER EPISODE: 4.2

    Margaret Bobonich

Good idea. I don't think anyone's surprised to see Steph at the top. I am surprised to see Margaret next, though. Meanwhile, since he stopped being sick, the spotlight's moved away from Bobby Jon. The strangest one is Danni, being below even people like Cindy and Jamie.

That's great dusparticle05! Thank you for putting that together. It will be interesting to see the percentages as the game goes on. Certainly is no surprise to see Steph at the top.

This is the first time I heard that Bobby Jon's last name was Drinkard. Clearly he is the drunk one the preview mentions. sheeeeeeeeesh. How stupid are we to think it could be another.

Anyway, it's interesting to note that the first five boots (minus Jim) have all ben contestants with the lowest number of confessionals. This is definitely a Survivor first, and yet another indication of the strange editing patterns that this season is employing.

Wow. Danni, Lydia, and Jamie are way down there. I wonder why they don't get as much screen time? Of course Stepheme is at the top...at least my boy Brandon is up there too. Which may or may not be a good thing!

cable probably would be able to clarify about past trends, but to me such a lack of screen time seems to be the kiss of death.

Kinda surprising to see Steph not get at least one confessional, but considering how obvious the boot was and where the story was (Judd and anyone he may disagree with), maybe not so much. Cindy seems like she may have woke from the dead, though I still don't actually know anything about her.

Thanks dustparti ... That is really interesting information. Do we think a pattern will emerge ... or maybe it already has ?

I wondered why Danni had gotten so little screen time ... but actually, Danni's screen time is when she's kicking arse in the challenges ... Jamie was the featured loser last week ... Bobby Jon ... well you can't understand 90 percent of what he says so they feature him through body heat and Stephanie's read on him ( 2 weeks in a row), Lydia was the featured player in the catapult challenge as well as the Pancake\Queen Dance.

Is it possible they are trying to "balance" the screen time for individuals between confessionals and "other" activities where we get ( or are led to ) a read on them ?

Thanks dustparticle! this is great. I always wondered about this. The pattern I think I see happening is that the first month's worth of contestants don't get much air time at all. I think they used to, but don't. I chalk this up to CBS learning that they are "throw away" contestants. In other words, they aren't really remembered by the public in the end end, so why bother giving them air time.

The second pattern I see is that after about a month, we see a reverse pattern such that the players with the most air time are the next ones to go. By this time, the viewers have gotten to know the players and more air time helps to build the drama.

I also think the viewing public does not take too well to "gotcha's" so I think reality show producers provide clues and hints. The spoiler threads of websites like FORT is a testament to how much viewers like to predict outcomes.

I've always thought the confessionals was a clue.

I'll be curious to see how your numbers compare to who gets voted each week.
