(Official press release from CBS - Now, in case you're wondering, most press outlets will use just one of these "info-bits". I'm posting them all, because some of them are interesting.)

    September 20, 2002

SURVIVOR IS BACK AND SO ARE THE VIEWERS -- ESPECIALLY YOUNG ONES

CBS'S PREMIERE OF "SURVIVOR: THAILAND" ATTRACTS AVERAGE OF MORE THAN 23 MILLION VIEWERS

"Survivor" Up +22% in Adults 18-34 and +5% in Adults 18-49 From The "Survivor: Marquesas" Premiere

"Survivor: Thailand" Posts Highest First Episode Share in Key Demographics Since Post Super Bowl Premiere of "Survivor: The Australian Outback"

Numbers Are Up in Households, Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 And Adults 25-54 Compared to Preliminary Affiliate Based Ratings Released Earlier Today

"Survivor: Thailand" Premiere To Be Rebroadcast on Saturday, 9:00-10:00 PM

"Big Brother 3 Thursday" Surges to Across-the-Board Record Ratings

CBS's premiere of SURVIVOR: THAILAND, the fifth edition of television's highest rated and most watched reality series, attracted an average of more than 23 million viewers (on par with last year's two editions) and topped the premiere of last season's SURVIVOR: MARQUESAS in households, adults 25-54, adults 18-49 and adults 18-34, according to Final Nielsen Ratings for Thursday, Sept. 19.

SURVIVOR: THAILAND kicked off with a 13.2/22 with 23.05m viewers, 9.3/29 in adults 18-34, 9.6/28 in adults 18-49 and 10.3/27 in adults 25-54, easily winning its time period in viewers, households and key demographics.

Compared to the premiere of SURVIVOR: MARQUESAS, THAILAND is up +22% in adults 18-34 (from 7.6/20), +5% in adults 18-49 (from 9.1/22), +3% in adults 25-54 (from 10.0/23) and +2% in households (from 13.0/20).

"'Survivor: Thailand'" is off to a very strong start, surpassing the success of its predecessor, 'Survivor: Marquesas' with younger audiences," said David Poltrack, Executive Vice President, Research and Planning, CBS Television. "It is clear that the audience for 'Survivor' is as enthusiastic as last year and that this franchise packs a potent ratings punch."

    SURVIVOR grew significantly at 8:30 PM -- up +5% in households (13.5/21 from 12.9/22), +11% in adults 18-34 (9.8/29 from 8.8/29), +10% in adults 18-49 (10.0/28 from 9.1/28), +9% in adults 25-54 (10.8/27 from 9.9/27) -- and added 1.98m viewers (24.00m from 22.02m).

This is the best Thursday performance for a SURVIVOR broadcast since the 1/10/02 "Survivor Africa" finale in households, adults 18-34 and adults 18-49 and the best Thursday delivery in adults 25-54 since 3/7/02.

SURVIVOR posted its best share delivery for any first episode since the post Super Bowl premiere of SURVIVOR II in households, adults 18-34, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54. This is the largest share delivery for a Thursday SURVIVOR broadcast in adults 18-34, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 since the finale of SURVIVOR II.

CBS will broadcast an encore of the SURVIVOR: THAILAND premiere on Saturday, Sept. 21 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT).

BIG BROTHER 3 THURSDAY (9:01 10:00 PM) was first in the 9:00 PM time period in households (9.0/14), viewers (14.57m), adults 18-34 (6.3/18), adults 18-49 (6.4/17) and adults 25-54 (6.9/16). This is BIG BROTHER 3's best delivery in households, viewers and key demos this summer on any night.

For the night, CBS was first in households (10.5/17), viewers (17.24m), adults 18-34 (6.5/20), adults 18-49 (7.1/20) and adults 25-54 (7.9/20).

I wonder if the figures will take a knock with Friends staring their final season next week.
Fortunately for those of us North of the border, Friends and Survivor are shown on the same channel, Friends is on at 7.30, so we can watch both.

Fluff, that is a good point.
I figure here hubby will watch Friends downstairs, and I'll have him tape it while I watch Survivor upstairs!

    And then there is Tivo!!

When Friends has their 1/2 shows you can start at 8:10, watch Friends commercial free, then start Survivor from the beginning and still finish by 9 or slightly after.

    Talk about efficiency!

BF, you're making it harder for me to resist the TiVo temptation.

If it comes down to a contest, it'll be the same as every other season...Survivor gets watched, and Friends gets seen in the summer re-runs.

As soon as Survivor switched to Thursday night, I dumped Friends altogether.
When you're ten years old and a car drives by and splashes a puddle of water all over you, it's hard to decide if you should go to school like that or try to go home and change and probably be late. So while he was trying to decide, I drove by and splashed him again. - Jack Handey
