I think giving someone "the hand" is rude whether they are trying to read your lips or not.

I think it's just something Joanna possibly does to people when she doesn't want to hear from them anymore.
She continued to talk with her hand in place and basically out up the gesture to shut Christy down.
I just thought that was very rude.

fluff: I think you misinterpreted what I was trying to say.

I think what Joanna did was rude and disrespectful too. The comment I made was that if she was putting up the hand, then why bother speaking? Christy sure didn't know what Joanna was saying while the hand was up. All I was saying was if Joanna was giving her the hand, there was no point in speaking except to hear the sound of her own voice, because Christy wasn't hearing her.

I understood what you were saying.

My point was that this is how I think Joanna deals with people if she no longer wants to hear from them.
The hand gesture wasn't a "sign" to Christy, it was just a reflex action imo.
If Christy had been able to hear I think Joanna would still have given her the hand and carried on talking.
Joanna wanted to talk and have the person she was talking too not talk back.

That's how I read it anyway.

If I was ever talking to someone and "got the hand", they'd lose the arm below the elbow. Nothing makes me madder.

I agree Fluff, and I think it is extremely rude. It comes across w/a lot of irony giving that Christy is deaf and while it is a "sign" to the hearing world,( that actually does mean stop in sign language), it was probably even more offensive to Christy. I am sure it is her normal way to react when she wants to talk, its just so ironic to be giving a sign to Christy and to go of sooooo totally when she knows Christy didn't even get to hear the whole conversation the night before.

It might have been more of a "christian" gesture on her part to take her aside after hearing the comment made by Christy and explain what she said and why she believes it. But, I think Joanna's a littly hypocritical and it is showing.

Just to be on the record. I'll be supporting her all the way in Survivor. Eventhough she might not make it all the way, she is without a doubt my favourite survivor.

Not because she is handicapped. It is because she displayes so much determination and perseverance amidst tremendous adversity.

    She's got spunk!

I respect her effort in the game so far, but I think she's currently a little too emotional to advance far into the game. That sounds bad, but it seems that the players who are able to remain a bit more dispassionate (like Rich and Brian in the past and seemingly Alex this time around) typically fare a little better.

She may be able to recover, though. She's obviously a strong person, just for putting herself in this difficult situation. I think if she could gain the cooperation of just one or two other women on the tribe, she could right the ship and stick around for a while. As long as she feels excluded, though, and tells everyone that, the others won't feel bad voting her out.

I agree. I think Christy is way to emotional for this game. But it would be hard out there. I was happy to see them get the blind fold challenge out of the way, and for her to sit that one out.

lol about the hand in your face thing. That annoys me like non other. Not only is it really rude, its just annoying
