My main beef with this season is the lack of somebody to root for. Everybody's flaws have been showcased & everybody seems really annoying & flaky. I really wish the next Survivor has some likeable people in it. And if they're not, could they at least try to edit them that way?

Well, having said that, I still like this season. I just wish they would stop "playing the game" for a while & show some personality. The game faces are starting to get old.

That's why I thoroughly enjoyed the first season so much more than any of the following seasons.

NONE of the people were playing the game (at least in the beginning) except Rich

You'll never get back to those innocent days though unfortunately.
Most contestants do appear to have actually seen the show now, in stark contrast to some of the S3 folks, and are just too well educated.
Occasionally you'll get the odd flaky character, but generally they just know what they're doing far more.
This is why Burnett tries to mix it up every now and then.
The non-merge this year was a master-stroke, but he can't ever do that again.

In terms of vibe and all that this is as close as I have come to season 1. Think about it. Older crew seems screwed pretty much by the younger crew and in the end hold all the cards. Truthfully, after ep 4 we all though Chuay was screwed and since then we have seen them OWN things to the point that some arrogant flake like Penny will intentionally cut the throat of the man that fed her (Jake) and say she wanted to "send a mesage to Chuay Gon".

Awesome. It's like what would have happened in season 1 if the retards had seen that the Richard/Sue/Kelly/Rudy quartet meant that one of them was going to win. But even better, they know the game oh so well.

Hey I love this season. People will bitch about anything, even their lame ass Thursday night entertainment. You think this season is boring? Be glad you have the ability to make those types of personal decisions, for real. I mean that.

Therefore, enjoy it for what it is. Sure the first season rocked and all else pales in comparison, but that just is how it is. Things change and suddenly we have a soft porn star competing for a million.

Hey, fuck it, let's really go there. No identifiable characters to root for? c'mon!

    Let's see-

Clay fulfills the "root for the obnoxious/bad guy" thing.

Brian is the "networked well" choice.

Helen is the "played the game right" choice.

Ah Jake the (soon to be voted off) underdog.

    Whatever.

Stop bitching. This season rocks. Have some subtlety and see that. This is like very amusing for me to view these eps and really soak in . People who know this game competing with eachother and yet nothing they do changes who they are, no matter how much they try and hide it. For real. Shows me a lot about how we as humans think others see us and how they really do in a sense.

In a sense of course, since I really believe in my heart that when this shit is filmed they lead the Survivors on film and edit things tricky and do shit like, I dunno, steal a fishing net and boat?

It is all T.V. It is all amusement. This season amuses me. If it does not amuse you, by week 11, why are you posting on a message board about it?

I believe that if tv is all about anything it's entertainment rather than amusement.
I love the show and nothing will stop me watching it.
I do feel it isn't as entertaining as some previous seasons though. That's not to say I and probably many others won't look back on it fondly when it's over.

Every season has had some golden moments, imo, including this one.

Whether or not one feels there is a character for them to root for is a personal decision.
We all have our own idea of how we would like to see the game played and it's a purely personal choice whether you feel there is anyone there you want to support.
For me, the only people I feel I can get behind are Jake, as he is the under dog and Helen as she is in a position to turn the game on it's head.

If others can find a reason to root for Jan, good for them, I don't feel as though she has done anything I particularly want to support her for at this stage of the game.
That does not make me right and her supporters wrong, or vice versa.
It's a matter of opinion and choice there are no clearly defined lines here. Each person takes whatever they want from the show and the level to which it entertains or amuses each individual is purely personal.
We don't all laugh at the same jokes or cry at the same sad movies so we cannot all be expected to find the same events within the same shows equally funny, sad, touching or moving as the next person imo.

I am not convinced yet that Helen is playing the game all that well.

The recap show footage actually convinced me that Helen's decision to vote against Ghandia wasn't the master stroke it appeared to be via editing at the time. Ghandia was clearly an odd person at best, and incredibly annoying at worst.

It remains to be seen if Helen is a good player. She has the game in her lap this week, let she what she does with it. If Jake gets voted out, then Helen had best start winning immunities, because I can see the guys booting her before Jan even.

Helen does have the game in her lap this week Bill, I wish she had acted a week sooner though and listened to what Jake said about getting rid of Clay or Brian.

    I agree with you there.

Jake should have named names to Ted, and we only have to hope that Helen listened to what he said.

Jake and Helen are both smart, so it really comes down to if she feels her odds are better going with Jake out of the comfort of the group alliance.

I think it is obvious to all of us that she will not make final two staying with the boobsy triplets, but it is not so clear that based on what Helen knows that is the correct decision for her at the time.

Does anyone think Jake stands a chance?

I'm thinking he does not. Which makes me sad. I just have no idea how he could pull it off.

I believe they will give Jake a dignified sendoff this week, and then turn on each other.

Immunity is do or die for Jake.
