I am surprised that they didn't evaluate Colton first before deciding he was out for good. They've had other players taken out and then return for the next tribal council if they're medically able to. I hope maybe the producers realized Colton was sick in other ways despite the appendicitis.

I thought Jeff said it was because they had to medivac him to the hospital to confirm the diagnosis and that's why he didn't come back. Maybe it would have taken too long to get there and come back.

Does anyone know how one develops appendicitis? Could the Survivor conditions have brought it on, like the dehydration?

There isn't really any one cause for appendicitis. But, an infection, any kind of blockage can lead to inflammation in the appendix. Survivor conditions definitely wouldn't help... it struck my kid at random, though.

According to an online source, "There is no clear cause of appendicitis. Fecal material is thought to be one possible cause of obstruction of the appendix. Bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites can result in infection, leading to the swelling of the tissues of the appendix wall."

In other words, Colton was probably full of "fecal material," as we have all been saying. I think he picked up a bacteria while picking at his nails at Tribal Council. See, I even said last week that his nail-picking was going to cause his medical evacuation! You guys just didn't believe me.

I felt so bad for Christina during the episode, I'm so glad she made it to the merge, hopefully she can boot Alicia out before her.
If only Alicia was booted out than this episode would have been even better.

I can hardly believe what I just watched.

Colton's out, idol and all.
Alicia's in danger of going next.
Early merge with a 6/6 men/women split.
It's all too good to believe.

Between Monday's awesome DWTS premiere and tonight's Survivor, I'm beginning to believe in reality TV again!

Now, nobody burst my bubble and tell me Alicia actually has a chance of winning this thing. Please. It just can't happen.

Colton, I hope you enjoyed your last two days. You only had three options: quit, jump in the fire, or get appendicitis. What goes around, comes around. I'm so happy!

Seldom does one get to see karma play out so beautifully--and Colton remained an absolute jerk to the end by not returning the idol to anyone, including the person who gave it to him, but keeping it as a "souvenir." Hey, how about you keep your appendix in a jar as a souvenir instead.

I do feel sorry for his nurses. Can you imagine dealing with his post-surgerical attitude, considering how spoiled and pouty he is on a normal day?

I do worry, though, that Survivor will somehow stupidly feel bad for him and invite him back for another round.
