He was an unusual guy.
He did say that his friends told him he would either win it or be the first person to go.
He approached Hunter with talk of an alliance, but Hunter was not interested.
I think the fact they were allowed to see the switch episode of S3 played in his mind (Hunter) as he repeatedly said he didn't see the need for alliances at that point in the game.
