Alicia Calaway CBS Chat Transcript 4/23/04

Survivor Host: Hey everyone!! Thanks for joining us for the weekly Survivor: All Stars chat! Today we’re chatting with the Survivor All Star, Alicia Calaway.

Survivor Host: Hi Alicia! Thanks for being here today. Are you ready to take some questions?

Alicia: Absolutely!!

ckay: Alicia - How blown away are you by last night’s tribal council and do you think Rob is using a smart strategy?

Alicia: I wasn’t as surprised as it appeared. I knew I was vulnerable, but I didn’t think my time was coming that quickly. I think Rob is playing the game hard, but not thinking far enough ahead. There are three people right now in the jury with knives in their backs that he put there. That could be a problem for him if he makes it to the final two.

sammy: Alicia - what was it you said right when Jeff announced your name as the next Survivor voted off??

Alicia: I turned to my tribemates, but really the answer was directed to Rob. I was telling them, or rather warning them, that I had better not find out who was the one who turned on me.

AliciaRocks: Alicia, if you would have known you were going would you have tried to make alliances to get rid of Rob, even if that meant hooking up with the Shi-devil and Jenna?

Alicia: That’s a tough one. If I knew my back was against the wall I probably would have stuck around longer in the immunity challenge. But if that didn’t work I may have had to resort to making alliances with anyone that I could, including Shii Ann and Jenna.

Marge: Alicia, were you able to talk with Kathy and Lex after you got voted off? Were they surprised that you were the next to go?

Alicia: Kathy and Lex were not surprised to see me go. They knew that it was going to get cut-throat after they were gone.

Epiphany: Alicia, Sorry to see you go. What amazes me is that everyone seems to be following Rob, is this editing or are you all out of your minds?

Alicia: No, it’s not editing. It seems that people have decided to play the game so safe that they are not playing the game at all. They are happy to hide behind Rob and let him do the dirty work. I was the only one who didn’t make an alliance with anyone for that very reason. The alliance that I had with Rob I knew was never really going to be true, so I never counted on that. I decided to go it alone.

umtutsut: Hey Alicia I am a big fan, and it seemed you and Big Tom had a great relationship. We knew Rob would turn on you but were you surprised about Big Tom voting you out?

Alicia: I was not surprised at Big Tom because he had been following Rob’s lead from the beginning of the game. Big Tom doesn’t seem to be the kind of guy that wants to take any chances.

123456789: How would you describe the remaining Amber, Rob, Jenna, Rupert, Tom & Shii Ann in a couple of words each?

Alicia: Shii Ann - extremely abrasive; Jenna - never shuts up; Amber - always seems to play follow the leader; Big Tom - too loyal for his own good; Rob - the playground bully; Rupert - the scruffy Survivor.

walking: Hey Alicia!!! I’m sorry you got booted out if you could make your own tribe of 6 from all the seasons who will they be?

Alicia: From Survivor 1 - Gervase; from Survivor 2 - Jeff Varner; from Survivor Africa - Colby Dawson; from Survivor 3 - Lex; from Pearl Islands - Rupert; and of course me. Notice I didn’t choose any girls.

Epiphany: Alicia during the reward challenge why didn’t anyone try to make Rob the 1st target, he is clearly the threat?

Alicia: It seems that people were afraid to go against their alliances with him. Or maybe he cast some kind of spell over all of them.

AbuHamza: How did your tribe on Survivor All Stars compare to the Kucha tribe from Survivor Outback?

Alicia: (Laughs) That’s a loaded question. And it’s a hard one to answer. But outside of Kimmi from Kucha, that tribe respected each other and was much easier to get along with.

jenny: Do you look back now and wish you gave Shii Ann a chance to talk to you? Perhaps you could have shook the whole show up and saved yourself.

Alicia: No, I don’t, because Shii Ann never came to me with any strategies or plans for an alliance. The only thing she did was start trouble and cause paranoia by telling each person what the other people were saying about them.

one_tough_cookie_fan: Alicia, on a scale of one to ten, how mad were you at Shii Ann for winning immunity?

Alicia: I wasn’t mad at her at all for winning immunity. But I thought she was foolish to rub it in our faces when she was spending so much time back at camp trying to find a way to get closer to people to save herself and go further in the game. All she did by pointing at us and rubbing her victory in our faces was cause more of a division between her and everyone else.

Alicia_CalledAway: Alicia, put yourself in Shii Ann’s shoes, she was an outcast, not talked to, ignored, was it really so bad of her to shout out her excitement at winning?

Alicia: She wasn’t as much of an outcast before she was shouting and pointing as she was after she did that.

ss7: What did you think about the way Rupert handled that food reward??

Alicia: I think he handled it honestly. He didn’t really expose any alliances that people didn’t already know about.

ChabogaMogo: Can we expect a good speech from you at the final TC?

Alicia: What you can expect is what people know me best for, and that is an honest statement on how I feel about the final two.

jenny: Are you going to be as tough as Sue was when asking the questions of the final two? I hope so!

Alicia: I’m not sure anybody can ever replace Sue and her final speech. That was a doozy. But I will tell it just like I see it. And it won’t be nice.

probstess: Hi Alicia, was it difficult living with the Rob and Amber love story?

Alicia: The best way I can describe the Rob and Amber love story is to compare it to hanging out with a pair of friends that are a couple and you are solo. Imagine that all they do the entire time is hang all over each other and only concern themselves with themselves. I’m sure you would feel the same way as we did when I say you would be looking for the fastest way to get away from them and never hang out with them again.

asala: Alicia, reality TV is so hot right now, and you’re one of the stars. If you could go on a reality show besides Survivor, which one would it be?

Alicia: I’m not sure I could handle the stress, but I would have to say The Apprentice.

lumpy1: Alicia, did you take your poncho with you? Or leave it for the tribe?

Alicia: I took it with me. Unfortunately, I forgot to take my jean shirt and my bathing suit bottoms because they were soaking wet. I don’t know what ever happened to them. I would never leave anything behind to make life easier for the people that were left.

timmah: Alicia *shocked face* you snuggled with Big Tom, *laughs*, did you trust Tom when he was telling you that Rupert was the one on the chopping block?

Alicia: First of all … I had no choice but to snuggle with Big Tom. I had to sleep next to him every night and there wasn’t much room in that shelter. By the way, he’s a little smelly. I do have to say that I did trust Big Tom. I’m sure he had the intention of voting out Rupert, but I would guess that he was convinced to vote me out instead by Boston Rob.

DanieuBleau: Hi Alicia, did you get the impression that Rupert has an agenda all of his own, or is he just riding on Rob?

Alicia: I wish Rupert did have an agenda, but unfortunately I think he is riding Boston Rob’s coattails like everyone else seems to be doing.

GoLeesh: Hi Alicia, Lex said that Rupert is overrated. Do you agree?

Alicia: I think Rupert poses a threat to most of the men that were on All Stars. I haven’t seen anyone else possess the same skills as Rupert.

WrongWay: Hi Alicia, What did you think when you saw Boston Rob say at Tribal Council that he’s “been waiting 27 days to do this” to you?

Alicia: I was flattered that he had me on his mind for so long. But it also proves that he knew I was the only person in our tribe that he could not manipulate.

momof3: Hi Alicia. Great game! Is Amber playing Rob?

Alicia: I think that in the beginning Amber’s intentions were to use Rob to get ahead, but I think she genuinely likes him, and it doesn’t hurt that she is able to ride his coattails.

Go_Alicia: Alicia, thanks for treating the ladies to a Wet Jeff Probst, we owe you one girlfriend!!!! I imagine holding your arm above your head was extremely difficult, were you trying to win immunity or did you feel relatively safe going into that challenge?

Alicia: I think all of us were really trying to win that challenge. I didn’t, however, realize that my back was against the wall. I wish I could have kept my arm up there longer but my muscles simply started to spasm and finally gave out. I absolutely agree with you that it was nice to see Jeff Probst get all wet.

Donfoo: Hello Alicia I think you are great! I would have thought as great shape that you are in that last night’s challenge would favor you. How tough are the physical challenges in general this season?

Alicia: Thank you very much. This was extremely difficult for someone like me, because I am not a big fan of the ocean. My biggest fear in life is sharks, and it was hard to get that out of my head every time we did a water challenge. But to be perfectly honest with you, part of my strategy was to hold back a little on these challenges so that I wouldn’t become a physical threat the way I did in Australia in Season 2.

DanieuBleau: Hi Alicia, were you all for voting Rob Cesternino out and if so, why?

Alicia: Yes, I was all for voting Rob out because he proved in the Amazon that he could not be trusted, no matter what. He is an amazing strategist and knows how to play people. It also appeared that he was going to stay in his alliance with Boston Rob.

probstess: Hi Alicia, I knew exactly how you felt when Jenna was trying to be affectionate, did you just want to smack her?

Alicia: Absolutely. I am not the kind of person that needs reassurance or to be stroked by people who I don’t appreciate. I would much rather be by myself to sort out my feelings. I’m glad you can understand how I felt.

Lexxie: hey alicia. I think you are great! If Jeff Varner had been a part of All Stars would you have formed an alliance with him again this time around?

Alicia: I think I would have eventually formed an alliance with him if we weren’t on the same tribe and we had both made it to the merge. But I think we would have been smart to stay as far away from each other as possible.

plumeria: After joining the jury are you able to look at tape of previous shows of Survivor? Can you see what others said about you?

Alicia: Not only do they not give us tapes, but we are not even allowed to discuss the game so as to not to taint our final vote.

Lissie36: Alicia, editing didn’t really show why you and Shii Ann had so much animosity. What caused the discourse between you two?

Alicia: That is a long story. We have never really gotten along before the game even started, and the situation was just made worse when I had to be stranded in Panama with her.

123456789: What is your favorite thing about Survivor, why did you come back for All Stars?

Alicia: My favorite thing about Survivor is the opportunity to have the adventure of a lifetime, and the money doesn’t hurt either. The reason why I decided to do it again was because I knew I would regret it if I didn’t take the opportunity or the second chance at a million dollars.

byealicia: Alicia, you still looked buff, even after being in the game for that long … did you keep up an exercise regimen on the island?

Alicia: Thank you so much for that. But quite honestly, none of us had enough energy to do more than our daily chores and compete in the challenges. I’m just glad I was able to maintain some muscle mass, so I guess all of that training in the gym paid off.

Alicia_Rawks: Rob and Amber had these colorful wraps around themselves. Where did they get them and did anybody else have them?

Alicia: Rob was actually sharing the sarong that Amber had received when she went on the reward with Rupert and Jenna. So only those three had one. But of course, since Amber and Rob are attached at the hip, every time you saw him he had it around him.

roxanne: Alicia you seemed very hurt by the others by what came out at the challenge … but who do you think doesn’t deserve to be there?

Alicia: I wasn’t so much hurt as I was frustrated. But the person I was most surprised to see on All Stars was Amber. She didn’t make much of an impression on Survivor 2.

Legend41: Alicia, How did it feel to hear Shii Ann refer to all of you as “stupid people, stupid players”?

Alicia: Shii Ann seems to talk without thinking. She referred to us as stupid because none of us wanted to align with her, and she ended up winning immunity. So she thought that gave her the upper hand. The truth is she is on her own in this game unless she changes her attitude. I don’t think that makes us stupid, I think it makes her stupid.

padittle: Alicia, what do you plan to do now? Back to the same job or something new?

Alicia: I have a walk-on role on the show “Half and Half,” which airs on UPN on May 17, and I play Beverly the boot camp instructor. I know that doesn’t seem like much of a stretch, but it was a lot of fun. I don’t think however I’ve been bit by the acting bug, so I’ll stick to what I know best, that is health and fitness, and hopefully can continue to do some broadcasting.

Survivor Host: Unfortunately, our time with Alicia is up. Alicia, thanks so much for being here to chat with us today. Do you have any final comments for the Survivor fans?

Alicia: Thank you guys so much for talking to me today and asking me such great questions. I’m sorry I couldn’t stay in the game longer for your viewing pleasure, but you know how it goes. Keep an eye out for me, I can promise you that you’ll be seeing me again somewhere soon. Take care and God bless.

Survivor Host: Thanks for joining us everyone. Tune in next to an all-new SURVIVOR: All Stars next Thursday at 8:00 PM. And don’t forget to check www.CBS.com/survivor for all the latest Survivor info. Goodbye!

Wasn't it all 6 of them that turned on her?

Interesting that she disses people for riding Romber's coattails, but I never saw any indication of Alicia trying to split them up, or conspire against them.

Or do much of anything except tell Shii Ann to shut up.

Alicia doesn't seem to know her Survivor Trivia very well. It's Colby Donaldson and he was in Australia, not Africa.

She never elaborated on why she didn't choose girls...

The Survivor Host screwed up and made the typo. They corrected themselves a little later in the chat.

OK, so we have "not surprised here"...

Quote:
Alicia: I turned to my tribemates, but really the answer was directed to Rob. I was telling them, or rather warning them, that I had better not find out who was the one who turned on me.
Then a "surprised" DickTracy/CSI/I gotta get to the bottom of this here?

Quote:
Alicia: That’s a tough one. If I knew my back was against the wall I probably would have stuck around longer in the immunity challenge. But if that didn’t work I may have had to resort to making alliances with anyone that I could, including Shii Ann and Jenna.
Now she is back to being surprised???

Quote:
Alicia: Kathy and Lex were not surprised to see me go. They knew that it was going to get cut-throat after they were gone.
Now we add Lex and Kathy to the game of surprised/not surprised? Speaking of Lex and Kathy...cutthroat now as opposed to not cut throat when they were there? Step away from the mushrooms you have been eating in the jungle Alicia.

Quote:
Alicia: No, it’s not editing. It seems that people have decided to play the game so safe that they are not playing the game at all. They are happy to hide behind Rob and let him do the dirty work. I decided to go it alone.
So you have alliances or don't Alicia? That is not what you said in your Insider segment, or in shaking Rob's hand...and if you had no alliances, then you can't be too irked that everyone voted for you. So if you knew that Rob's alliance was never going to be true, then why not vote for him if/when he gets to F2? Thus, there is no one to seek revenge upon. Alicia, do yourself a favor, stop with the contradictions.

Quote:
Alicia: I was not surprised at Big Tom because he had been following Rob’s lead from the beginning of the game. Big Tom doesn’t seem to be the kind of guy that wants to take any chances.
Here we go with the "not surprised again". People, either you have ESP and are psychic and know the game Rob and others are playing, or you have no clue and you are a victim and Rob is the devil and his followers drink jungle kool-aid. Which is it going to be?

Quote:
Alicia: (Laughs) That’s a loaded question. And it’s a hard one to answer. But outside of Kimmi from Kucha, that tribe respected each other and was much easier to get along with.
Again with the respect, the only word used more at a Survivor post-exit chat is "friendships"...neither of which are part of Outwit, Outlast, Outplay the last time I checked. My gosh people, this is NOT summer camp, I don't care how many previous Survivor events you have attended together, stop thinking it is one big love fest, and get back to "game on".

Quote:
Alicia_CalledAway: Alicia, put yourself in Shii Ann’s shoes, she was an outcast, not talked to, ignored, was it really so bad of her to shout out her excitement at winning?

Alicia: She wasn’t as much of an outcast before she was shouting and pointing as she was after she did that.
Ahh, but were you showing her respect Alicia? :rolleyes

Quote:
Alicia: I’m not sure I could handle the stress, but I would have to say The Apprentice.
Alicia versus Katrina/Ereka/Heidi/"O", now that I would love to see.

Quote:

Rob is the devil, the rest are merely sheep, we get it oh hallowed Jury.

Seeems like another loser that thinks he/she played the game well.

I guess she never saw Survivor Marquesas, because if anything Rob M. is just as untrustworthy as Rob C (perhaps even more untrustworthy). I can't believe everyone is falling for his handshake deals when it was completely obvious on his season that he would turn on anyone (except his girl!) in a heartbeat. Sheesh.

This chat proves that she apparently lacks brains in the strategy department. I mean since when is it a good idea to "go at it alone" in Survivor? Last time I checked the game was about making alliances and using people to get ahead in the game, not making some random sort-of alliance with the least trustworthy person on the island and nothing else. It's also interesting that she may not have even attempted to form an alliance with Shii/Jenna if she knew she was on the chopping block simply because she doesn't like them.

It's also funny how she's criticizing her tribemates for riding Rob's coattails when she did nothing to suggest that she was doing otherwise. And then she criticizes Shii-Ann for her "stupid people" remark when the reason she called them all stupid was basically because they were letting Rob run the game and they were sitting back and doing nothing, i.e. the same thing Alicia said about them. But, when Shii-Ann says it she is the "stupid" one.

I wonder if Big Tom "being too loyal for his own good" is a sign of things to come - I would have called him "too stupid for his own good" though.
