    Re: Nfl 2013 - 2014

Maybe south of Monterey?? I didn't even know it was the same road 'til I saw a signpost in Malibu on the Million Dollar Listing LA show that said Hwy. 1 while total cutie, Madison, was calling it PCH. That was a Duh!, SMH moment for me because I knew the Coastal Hwy. ran the length of the state but I just never made that connect before. Maybe we can just start calling it PCH up here and it will give our miserable, cold, foggy beaches that Malibu cache'!

Funny, I just assumed that Orange County folks called it The O.C. because Bravo does. I's a pretty long state and I guess the North doesn't always know what the South is up to.

I've seen it called so many things that I have no idea what I should be calling it. Regardless, the coast was beautiful, I , too wanted to head down to San Diego but we didn't plan it well. We should have booked our return flight from SD. Oh well, next time,

Since this is the NFL thread I'll throw in that I'm not surprised about Schwartz's firing. However Matt Stafford didn't help any by playing horrible the second half of the season.

    Re: Nfl 2013 - 2014

    Oh! Shudder!..... Y! SPORTS

Sunday’s playoff game at Green Bay might be colder than famous ‘Ice Bowl,’ the coldest NFL game ever

The "Ice Bowl," one of the most iconic games in NFL history, had a wind chill of minus-48 degrees. It's almost inhuman to play football in that weather.

And Sunday's game at Green Bay might be even colder than that.

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the bad forecast for Green Bay's game against the 49ers got worse. According to AccuWeather, the high will be minus-five degrees, the low will be minus-20 and the wind chill will be ... MINUS-51 DEGREES.

No wonder Green Bay was having trouble selling out this game.

The "Ice Bowl" is the coldest game in NFL history, at minus-13 degrees. The coldest game in NFL history in terms of wind chill was the Chargers-Bengals AFC title game in January of 1982, at 59 degrees below zero. This game has a chance to threaten both of those records.

The second-coldest game in Lambeau Field history was the NFC championship game against the Giants at the end of the 2007 season, at minus-one degree. That mark is definitely in danger.

In games like this, some players think it makes them tough to dress in short sleeves, which doesn't make a lot of sense. Everyone knows they're cold. Tight end Ryan Taylor won't be one of those players.

"I don't really subscribe to 'the less clothes I have on the tougher I am,'" Taylor told the Journal-Sentinel. "The guys who think they're the toughest guys in the world go out wearing no sleeves. It doesn't make any sense. Being cold doesn't make you tough. It makes you stupid."

The funny thing is, the 49ers seem to be a better fit for those conditions than the Packers. The 49ers are a power-running team that was third in the NFL in rushing yards per game, and one of only four teams to have 500 rushing attempts this season. The Packers were more balanced this season with rookie running back Eddie Lacy, but they'd still prefer to spread the field and pass the ball with Aaron Rodgers. It won't be easy to pass with the ball frozen solid.

Rodgers was born in Chico, Calif. 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was born in Milwaukee, Wis. In many ways, the 49ers look like the NFC North team in this game.

But it might not matter much. Neither team will function normally in weather that extreme. Both teams are going to be miserable for a game that might knock the "Ice Bowl" out of the record books.
No! Please! I don't wanna' go there! Pleeeeeese, don't make me go there!!

I just hope they can keep the game on the national schedule so I can see it. Isn't there a point when the officials say..."Let's all hop a plane for San Francisco and the balmy 40 degree weather?"

Actually, 57 degrees right now at almost 1:00pm. Cooler than it's been lately. Has the NFL ever cancelled or delayed a game for 'weather'?

Only for lightning. Not for cold. Otherwise, it would be called "Wussball."
IIRC, the Cowboys couldn't handle the legendary Ice Bowl. Can the 'Niners? We'll know soon.

Well, I guess you're never too old to learn something new. Get this: The Weather Service names Winter Storms! Not just tropical storms and Hurricanes, but big slammin' blizzards and ice storms too! This one is, Hercules! Gulp!

Please don't tell me I'm the only one here who did not know this!

You're not. Fascinating, but I haven't heard the local or national weather reporters using the names.

    Re: Nfl 2013 - 2014

I heard it called "Hercules" on the local news last night. First I've heard of such a thing! I remembered this morning while reading those weather reports for the game and found that article on the Weather Service website. If I lived up there I would call such scary things by their name! Like, "Hey, you know Hercules is coming, should we close the office tomorrow?" Just like they do with the hurricanes. I guess this will be the game to watch tomorrow, not just us, but football fans everywhere who would like to see another Ice Bowl. That little evil person inside of me is starting to think, "This could be fun to watch!"

The weather here has been so horrible sunny (for winter) because of a "Low" that's been sitting over the region since before Thanksgiving. We have had "Spare the Air" warnings just about every day since (can't burn in your fireplace or BBQs, though I did cheat once when I had a little Christmas party). Three of my rosebushes still have blooms!

Oops! Not the weather thread? Sorry, back to the playoffs.

It's on Sunday afternoon, not tomorrow. The Packers have hired people at $10 an hour to clear off the seats. Good news for those outside the regional broadcast areas - the stadium sold out! I wonder how many, though, will actually show up.
