The hockey union didn't have anything to say- so why would they meet.I think this season is done

Apparently, that's going to be officially cancelled on Thursday. I think cancelling the Winter Classic will be the last step; I doubt there will be a season at all without it

The poor Leafs. Even when they get awesome shots like the winter classic, it still doesn't work out for them.

Poor Crosby, all he wants to do is skate. He wanted to some charity games but his insurance is $400,000 A MONTH( gulp) every month

Imagine the money that the cities are losing. Can they go after the NHL or the NHLPA to recover any losses, I wonder?

Fanny - as nuts as it sounds, Crosby is too valuable to play anything but pro hockey (well, and Olympic hockey). I get that a lot of the guys want to play, but for them it's now a job first and a game second.

I hear you about Crosby. Some of the younger players, those not getting paid much are beginning to hurt. We may see a season yet.

True, I imagine DC will be hit pretty hard. The last lockout didn't have much of an effect locally, mainly because hardly anyone in the area cared about the Capitals, but their popularity has exploded since becoming a playoff team, and the Capitals games consistantly sell out. The Wizards also play at the Verizon Center, but they're now about as irrelevant as the Capitals used to be. That's not a bad idea, maybe if city governments did go after the league and union to recover losses they'd be more motivated to reach a deal quickly.
