The only thing I've heard is speculation that he called a push on Edu. It's comical if you look at the reply. Edu just makes a nice move around his defender while the other Slovenian defenders are all grabbing and tugging on the men they are marking to the extent that there could have been three penalties called.

We wuz robbed! The weird thing is that FIFA is being so secretive. Why don't they just issue a statement that the ref thought the US was offside, or whatever he thought?

I am soooooo glad that Host Broadcast (who's providing the feeds to all the networks) decided to filter out most of that vuvuzela noise. It was unbearable. Funny thing is, those horns aren't even of South African origin: they were first used during Chinese women's basketball games...

It's great for South Africa to be portrayed so positively, but the sad thing is that they're getting pretty close to zero of the revenues from World Cup Events--FIFA keeps almost all of it--and South Africa is going to be left with huge debts from stadium construction.

Well, that's frustrating! If the U.S. doesn't advance, will the referee say anything then? That goal could have made the difference. I am so glad Algeria and England tied. We still have a chance!

Yeah, I agree with all the above. I'm watching this game for the second time (Father's Day weekend, so I have to relinquish control of the remote). I was saying to my hubby that they really should use technology and the power of replays at this level of soccer. His reply was about interrupting the flow of the game. I dunno. Anyways, I think the US was robbed too.

That's what is so frustrating. I mean obviously the ref gets to call the game and the players are always at his mercy, but at least be man enough to explain what the heck the call was. That's why I think he just made it up.

I just saw the England result. Wow. This is getting interesting!

I was recently in South Africa, but not for the World Cup. I was there with a class of 28 (plus our teacher of the class and 5 other chaperones) for what my school calls an "immersion trip." We focused on doing community service (by visiting orphanages, etc.), but we also went to tourist attractions like Table Mountain and Robben Island. We just got back last Monday.

Anyway, even though we didn't attend a World Cup game, the whole atmosphere is very vibrant and alive. There's a tagline of a local channel (SABC) that says, "Feel it. It is here." Well whatever "it" was, my class and I definitely felt it.

Pretty much everyone is super excited that the World Cup is coming to African soil. I was talking to a boy at an orphanage, and he was telling me how thankful he is that he was alive during the time his country was chosen to host. It made me smile just to see how happy he was.

Can someone tell me the tie-breaker process at the end of group play? Is it total goals?

Yep, it's total goals. (Right now, US and England each have 2 pts because they both tied in their first two games, but technically the US is ahead because they've made 3 goals to England's 1.)

Someone on one of my lists said yesterday that if the points are the same, and then the number of goals are the same, a coin toss is used. I haven't checked on that yet to know if it's true.

Isn't it goal difference then goals scored?
If it's still even after that, it's points between the teams concerned, goal difference between the teams concerned then goals scored between the teams concerned.
    I think.

Coin tossing or drawing lots is well down the list I believe.
