| Re: Summer Olympics: Beijing, China I realize that was supposed to be a joke, but I've always been really close to my mom (as are a lot of young men in the world), and there aren't any freakish Freudian undertones in my mind. I'd imagine a lot of people would be offended by that insinuation. |

| Re: Summer Olympics: Beijing, China  My brother is very close to our mother and he's 44. Nothing weird or clingy about it. Makes him a better man, IMHO.  It would make me more nervous if a 20-ish young man didn't have a good relationship with his mother. Hell, it makes me nervous when 40-ish men don't have a good relationship with their mothers!  After what Debbie Phelps went through raising those 3 kids alone, I'd see it as the height is ingratitude if her son didn't sing her praises.

Last week, Phelps landed a book deal for his memoir, titled Built to Succeed. "The bullying and adversity made him be stronger and work harder," his mom Debbie told Us Weekly. "Michael may not have been able to focus in school, but I saw a passion for swimming at such a young age," she said. "He could be at a swim meet or practice for hours. It was a great outlet." |
