Ditto. My 22 year old college boy isn't an athlete, but just the same it's nice that they still need us. It's a process from being mama's boy to independent young man. My son is about half and half, and I see us always being close. Nothing wrong with that.

Re: Summer Olympics: Beijing, China

I realize that was supposed to be a joke, but I've always been really close to my mom (as are a lot of young men in the world), and there aren't any freakish Freudian undertones in my mind. I'd imagine a lot of people would be offended by that insinuation.

Re: Summer Olympics: Beijing, China

My brother is very close to our mother and he's 44. Nothing weird or clingy about it. Makes him a better man, IMHO. It would make me more nervous if a 20-ish young man didn't have a good relationship with his mother. Hell, it makes me nervous when 40-ish men don't have a good relationship with their mothers! After what Debbie Phelps went through raising those 3 kids alone, I'd see it as the height is ingratitude if her son didn't sing her praises.

Re: Summer Olympics: Beijing, China

I wonder who's going to ghost write/cowrite/write this book for him...

Usmagazine.com | News - Michael Phelps to Host Season Premiere of Saturday Night Live

Michael Phelps is continuing his dominance out of the water -- he'll host the season premiere of Saturday Night Live on September 13, NBC announced Wednesday.

Rapper Lil Wayne will join the Olympic swimmer -- who won eight gold medals in Beijing -- as musical guest.

Phelps, 23, will also be a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Monday.

Last week, Phelps landed a book deal for his memoir, titled Built to Succeed.

"The bullying and adversity made him be stronger and work harder," his mom Debbie told Us Weekly.

"Michael may not have been able to focus in school, but I saw a passion for swimming at such a young age," she said. "He could be at a swim meet or practice for hours. It was a great outlet."

He can't be worse than Mark Spitz was. I remember seeing him on a Bob Hope Special and he was just awful

LeBron James and Peyton Manning were fantastic when they hosted SNL. Hopefully Phelps will follow suit!

I like his commercial for the Rosetta Stone. Shot of him and his Speedos and all. I don't like Speedos much...
