Re: Summer Olympics: Beijing, China

The game is being shown live. It's just after 3:00 pm in Beijing.

The best answer I can think of is that China didn't want to hold the game early in the morning or late at night. Having the game at 2:30 in the afternoon is a good timeslot... just not for countries with a totally different time zone, like the U.S.

I'm sure the players wouldn't be happy about playing early in the morning just so we could watch it during prime time back home.

And the fact that the game is live in all timeslots is amazing. I can't believe I'm actually watching something live on the west coast. So I think NBC did the best they could. I bet they wanted to air one of the Redeem Team's previous games on primetime, but basketball games take way too long and NBC wouldn't have time for all of the other events.

My son would have loved to watch this game but as it started at 2:30 a.m. local time he'll need to hear about it in the morning.

Re: Summer Olympics: Beijing, China

They just aired a flashback of the Munich games. What exactly happened? First I saw USA cheer, then I saw the other team throw the ball across the court where another teammate caught and shot it. Then they were cheering.

I'm so confused. I wasn't listening to the commentators until after I saw that, so all I know is that USA protest the results.

ETA: omg, I didn't think I would (since I thought USA had this in the bag), but I'm getting a little nervous. Spain just went on a 7-0 run and is now 2 points behind!

One more minute left. USA has an 8 point lead at the moment. Oh man, I think they got this in the bag now. ~knocks on wood~

ETA: And they just won it! Amazing game, amazing win. Congrats to the Redeem Team!

I agree. Every interview I've ever seen of him, he is awesome! And adorable! And he's a doctor, too, no? What I really admire about those athletes is that they competed for the love of the sport, not endorsements (not that there's anything wrong with capitalizing on your athleticism!). To read about how that one athlete ran on the runway after coming back from missions...wow. Powerful stuff.

Well, I'm already going into Olympics withdrawal...

There is always the Democratic National Convention to watch next week; one type of sports replacing another
