    Re: Hockey 2008 - 2009

I do think he should have been suspended, maybe not 6 games but suspended none the less. I don't think it was what he said, but how he went about it, calling in the cameras and media. Couple that with his past shenanigans and that was what landed him the suspension.

Tomorrow we will find out if will ever wear a Stars jersey again and according to nhl.com sending him to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL isn't an option because they do not want him. They were contacted before this incident about him going there and the owner said no way.

At this point it appears as though he has burned a whole lot of bridges within the hockey community and could be hard pressed to find a job.

I don't know that it should have been coupled with his other shenanigans though.
The NHL could have suspended him for some of his other antics and chose not to, so if they're using his history to explain part of the suspension I think that's unfair.
The discipline handed down by the NFL seems to be very arbitrary.

Avery was suspended because he's Sean Avery. That's why. It's not the first time the guy has made distasteful comments. Heck, he even gave a cameraman the middle finger once that I recall. Trash talk and agitating opponents is part of his game.

As for Tom Hicks saying the Stars would have suspended him had the league not done so...this seems like a big overreaction to trash talk. So Dallas is having second thoughts about signing Avery. When you are last place in your conference you often rethink things but ditching Avery isn't the answer for the Stars.

Exactly. I already said upthread the suspension is ridiculous. If the Stars want to slap his hand and make him sit a couple games, whatever, but for Bettman to get involved...outrageous. This in a league where Todd Bertuzzi is still playing.

Not only playing in the league, but has also played for Canada since ther Moore incident. Sickening.

I don't like the way the Dallas staff has hung Avery out to dry on this.
I don't condone what he said, as far as Elisha is concerned Avery had Komisarek's "sloppy seconds" himself, but it really seems as though they've made a mountain out of a molehill. Apparently the Dallas players haven't mad themselves available to him so he could apologize in person.
A lot is being made public that I feel should have stayed private.

Are we really so sure that Avery was talking about Elisha? He never mentioned any names. Nor did he even say he was talking about a female.

Wonder how long it will take for Burke to motion for Avery to come to the Leafs?

This might explain the DS side of things a bit more.

He could just as easily have been talking about Rachel Hunter, but as he was set to play in Calgary that night it's been assumed he was talking about Cuthbert. I think that's a fairly safe assumption.

I don't know why anyone would think he wasn't talking about a woman.

So lemme see if I get this straight, Avery gets dinged for 6 games for saying two words, that I would bet never really "hurt" anybody for longer than 5 seconds. Yet guys can run around taking clear shots at somebody's head giving them a concussion which usually turns into a lifelong issue and they get less than that?

The NHL disciplinary guys are a joke.

I don't know why anyone would think he wasn't talking about a woman.
Reminds me of one of Avery's quotes:

"Open up a magazine and look at my track record, I don't think I'm gay."
