ESPN seems to be all over David Beckham, so it will be interesting to see if he has more impact on the sport in the US than anyone has previously had, in terms of increasing popularity.
I don't have the link, but I read from a credible source that ESPN drew 1.4 million viewers for the opening game. I'm assuming that was good because they made it sound like a really big draw.
Do you guys think that Beckham playing in the U.S. will draw more attention to soccer?
well, one of the talk show hosts (Conan O'Brien, maybe) said that the Beckhams have arrived in LA with their staff of 14 household and personal employees, and then remarked that the LA, um, soccer team's fan base has now grown by a whopping . . . 14.

Well I know those who paid to watch in Dallas must be furious. Jacked prices at 4 times the regular price for a seat, etc... all to have Beckham not even show up! I think that's really a poor choice and I don't buy that he has to stay in LA for medical reasons. If he can go shopping and out for dinner, he can make appearances at games.
Even though David Beckham is playing in the U.S. I doubt I'll watch soccer.
Beckham was at the game tonight, but he's hurt, so he didn't play. I'm betting the people who bought tickets to see him are very angry. I won't watch soccer now just because of him, but he isn't bad to look at! :lovestruc
