I'm glad to see this. Jeff Burton got screwed big time when Robby pulled this stunt. From Jayski's.
Quote:
# Robby Gordon fined and docked points for roll bar padding incident UPDATE Gordon to appeal: NASCAR announced Wednesday that Robby Gordon has been fined and issued two point-standing penalties, for rule infractions during this past Sunday’s Nextel Cup Series event at Atlanta. Gordon, the driver and owner of the #7 Chevy, has been fined $15,000; he also has been penalized with the loss of 50 driver championship points and 50 car owner championship points. Gordon also has been placed on probation by NASCAR until Dec. 31. Gordon violated Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 12-4-N (intentionally causing a caution condition during the race) – of the NASCAR Rule Book. In addition, Gordon’s crew chief Greg Erwin has been fined $10,000 due to violations of Sections 12-A and 12-4-N – and 9-4-A (crew chief assumes responsibility for the actions of his/her driver, car owner and team members). Erwin also has been placed on probation until Dec. 31.(NASCAR PR), see full history of the reason for the penalty on my #7 Team News and Links page.(11-1-2006)
# UPDATE: Gordon Plans to Appeal Penalty

Robby Gordon Motorpsorts released a statement Wednesday night that did not address whether Gordon was innocent but indicated it would appeal the penalty. "We strongly believe the penalty imposed on the team, crew chief and driver, Robby Gordon, are excessive and fall well outside of any reasonable precedence set by NASCAR in dealing with many similar incidents in the past," Gordon's team said in a statement. "We do intend to appeal the severity of this penalty."(SceneDaily.com)(11-2-2006)

Championship Week In NYC

From Jayski's Silly Season Site.
Quote:
Championship Week in NYC: For the 26th consecutive year, the Nextel Cup Series Awards Ceremony is coming to the famed Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City. This year’s event is set for Friday night, Dec. 1 and, as always that will culminate a full week of activities for the Nextel Cup champion, and an entourage of other titlists – from the NASCAR Busch Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the NASCAR Autozone Elite Divisions and the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series.
From a media standpoint, there are a variety of opportunities, starting with a third-year event that has quickly become perhaps THE highlight of NASCAR’s yearly week in Manhattan – Victory Lap, when the 10 drivers who competed in the Chase for the Nextel Cup jump behind the wheels of show cars and provide a colorful – and raucous – parade through Midtown.
This year’s Victory Lap is set for Wednesday, Nov. 29, starting at 8:30am/et in front of Good Morning America’s Time Square studios on 44th Street and Broadway. Victory Lap ends approximately a half-hour later at the ESPN Zone in Times Square, at 42nd and Broadway. Following will be a media availability session from 9:30-10:30pm/et with drivers.
Moving on…NASCAR’s annual luncheon for New York and Northeast media is again slated for the renowned 21 Club on Wednesday afternoon from 12:30-2:30pm/et
On Thursday, Nov. 30, the NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers Awards Luncheon will be held at Cipriani’s Restaurant, which for the first time will be a combination of two long-running previous events.
For a number of years, NASCAR held an annual press conference on Thursday afternoon of Champions Week, featuring the top-10 drivers and a “state of the sport” theme, while the NMPA (National Motorsports Press Association) had its annual Myers Brothers Breakfast on Friday morning, where a variety of year-end awards were presented.(NASCAR PR), any news, schedule for the week and appearances will be posted on my 2006 Cup Awards Page. (11-17/23-2006)

Why in the heck does Speed Channel have Melissa Rivers doing the red yellow carpet on their pre awards banquet show? It's obvious she knows nothing about NASCAR. This is why I hate the awards banquet. It's too phony.

ISC Discontinues Pursuit of Speedway in Staten Island

Quote:
International Speedway Corporation ("ISC") today announced its decision to discontinue pursuit of a speedway development on Staten Island. The Company will explore alternative strategies for the 676-acre parcel of land it currently owns in the borough. ISC had been evaluating the feasibility of developing a motorsports entertainment facility on Staten Island since late 2004. This study focused on a number of key project components such as:

NASCAR Champ Benny Parsons Stabilized, Condition Still Critical
By Mike Baron
Jan 10, 2007

TV analyst and 1973 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup champion Benny Parsons, was diagnosed with cancer in his left lung in July. Benny Parsons remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit of Carolinas Medical Center, but his condition, listed as critical, has stabilized. He continues to fight complications brought on by treatments for lung cancer.
Parsons has been in the ICU since Dec. 26. In October, Benny announced that his cancer was in full remission. He was even given a new contract, but his health began to decline and he was unable to attend the Nextel Cup Awards Ceremony in early December, and was re-admitted to the hospital after Christmas.Parsons has reportedly lost the use of his left lung in his battle with cancer. Parsons' right lung is healthy, however, and doctors are optimistic his body will adjust to having just one healthy lung.

Parsons has had chemotherapy and radiation on a tumor that forced him to miss several races for TNT and NBC during the 2006 season.

Ricky Rudd says it best when he states: '"Hopefully he is gonna rebound from this thing ... It looks like he's got the cancer whipped, but I guess he's got some injuries due to the nature of the aggressiveness that I guess they treated him with. Benny is a class-act guy. He's been around a long time. He's won races. He's won a championship. He's well-respected in the garage for sure. ... I'm not gonna say too much more because I don't want to think about the negative. I think Benny is gonna be back because he's a tough guy."

Parsons is not allowed visitors at this time, but fans and associates can continue to send him messages at bp@goprn.com.

Get better Benny!
