I would think this would stop any trade talk for Peja.

However, I just don't see how the Kings are getting a good deal here. I can definately see why Philly did it.

WOW, so many trades went down at the deadline!!

Mrs. Cweb, sorry about you getting traded to Philly. I really don't know what the Kings were thinking. My Philly friends are ecstatic. Kenny Thomas is an undersized PF, but he hustles.

Here is a head scratcher. The Celts reacquire Antoine Walker, giving up Payton (who they finally seemed happy with) in the process.

    Associated Press

BOSTON -- Antoine Walker is coming back to Boston after the Celtics agreed to trade Gary Payton, Tom Gugliotta and Michael Stewart to Atlanta on Thursday.

The Hawks will also get a future first-round draft choice, spokesman Arthur Triche said Thursday. The trade was pending league approval.

Walker spent seven years with the Celtics from 1996-2003, helping them reach the Eastern Conference finals in 2001-02. But basketball boss Danny Ainge decided after taking over the team during the 2003 postseason that it would be better off without its strongest all-around player and its strongest personality.

Nine days before the 2003-04 season opener, Ainge traded Walker along with guard Tony Delk to the Dallas Mavericks for center Raef LaFrentz, guard Jiri Welsch and a first-round draft pick. Welsch was traded to Cleveland on Thursday for a 2007 first-round draft pick.

As a TV analyst before he took over the Celtics, Ainge made no secret of his distaste for Walker's game. When Walker was traded, Ainge commented less on his play than on his influence on the locker room, saying the player "had a grasp on the franchise."

"He's been the best player here for quite a while. He's been a vocal leader in the locker room," Ainge said at the time. "Now we're going in a different direction."

Walker leads Atlanta with 20.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 40.2 minutes per game. In his career, Walker is averaging 20 points and 8.7 rebounds.

Payton, a nine-time all-star, reluctantly came to Boston last summer after the Lakers traded him in the aftermath of their Shaq-and-Kobe disaster. He is averaging 12.1 points and 6.1 assists this season, below his career averages of 17.7 and 7.2.

At 36, Payton was seen as a possible mentor for 23-year-old Marcus Banks. But with the trade of Payton and Welsch the Celtics will now give Banks a chance to learn on the court.

I bet GP is pissed!! I read that he supposedly won't report to ATL and is seeking a buyout of his contract.

I really don't know what Isiah Thomas is thinking. Knicks don't even have a legit C on their roster. They just traded for Malik Rose and Mo Taylor.

While Rose was a fan favorite in SA, i'm glad to see his over paid salary go.

GS could be fun to watch with Baron, JRich, and Troy Murphy. Dunleavy

I wonder what the heck is Petrie, Thomas, Ainge, & Cuban smoking? Cuban just added another scorer onto his team as if he doesn't have enough already, he also pushes their payroll to join the exclusive 100 million club, along with NYK. Ainge just practically admitted he screwed up last year, and if he gives Toine an extension, even worst. I think his time is ticking fast.

Petrie is the only genius GM out of that bunch, so I'm hoping he has major offseason plans this offseason!

This might be good for GP, assuming Atlanta buys out his contract, he gets to sign wherever he wants. And rumors are circulating from back to Boston to Miami, San Antonio, & Minnesota.

Tough watching Sacto without Cweb last night.

Mrs CWebb that must have seemed really strange. I have a real fondness for Geoff Petrie because I used to watch him play for the pathetic expansion Portland Trailblazers many moons ago. He was their best player back in the day and the Blazers being the only major professional sport in Portland, they were everything. Heck, The Mariners weren't even around back then.

Tell me about it Mariner! I wasn't sure if I was rooting for Kings or Mavs on Thursday night. But today I was obviously rooting for my man, too bad it was a heartbreaking loss. Ultimately the trade was necessary, but I'm shocked Petrie did not ask for more. In the long run, Petrie is looking to resign Peja and move 3 more tradeable player as opposed to one huge contract playing on one leg. While Cwebb's marketability is at the highest it could be in this stage of his career, he should move him especially when there's a buyer out there. However, it sucks watching the final piece of the Jwill, Cwebb, Vlade days gone!

    Maurice Cheeks Fired
The Portland Trail Blazers fired coach Maurice Cheeks on Wednesday, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith reported.

The team scheduled a news conference at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Kevin Pritchard, Portland's director of player personnel, will be Portland's interim coach, Smith reported.

The Trail Blazers are 22-33 this season. Their next game is Friday against the Indiana Pacers.

Cheeks, in his fourth season with the team, led the Blazers to the first round of the playoffs in his first two seasons.

Not a major shocker. Another coach unemployed, this will be an interesting offseason for coaches. Flip, Phil, Cheeks, & McMillan (FA).
