The Bucs officially have the best record in the NFL...Have I died and gone to heaven?

    Paulie, work your magic, please!

Whoa, this will take me a little bit. That clusterf*ck in the AFC is very confusing. I'll post the playoff matchups after my 1PM meeting.
When you're ten years old and a car drives by and splashes a puddle of water all over you, it's hard to decide if you should go to school like that or try to go home and change and probably be late. So while he was trying to decide, I drove by and splashed him again. - Jack Handey

Damn AFC, I tell ya. The AFC is always much tighter for the playoff race than the NFC, for some reason.

    OK, here goes.

    AFC
    ----
First order of business is to determine the winner of the AFC West. Taken as a group of three, each team is 1-1 head-to-head against the others. So you have to look at division record. Oakland's 1-2 record drops them out of contention. Denver beat San Diego head-to-head so they are the winners.

Now to figure out the top 2 seeds. Miami is 2-0 against Denver and Indy so they advance. And, thanks to last week's snow game, Indy owns the tiebreaker over Denver head-to-head. So:

    Byes: Miami and Indianapolis

    Wild Card matchups:
    Oakland at Denver
    San Diego at Pittsburgh

    NFC
    ----
Ah, much easier. Tampa Bay, obviously, is all by itself atop the entire league (as John somehow noticed). And Philly owns the tiebreaker over Green Bay by virtue of their perfect NFC record.

First-round byes: Tampa Bay and Philadelphia

    Wild Card matchups:
    New Orleans at Green Bay
    Atlanta at San Francisco

Note that Green Bay is a win away from clinching their division, even after losing two games in a row.

    You rock, Paulie!

What I wouldn't pay to see Indy against the Bucs in the Superbowl...The ousted coach (Dungy) against the new young stud (Gruden). THAT would be fun!

Thanks, John. I used to pore over the NFL tiebreaker procedures as a kid. I know them pretty much by heart.

So um Paulie...is it statistically impossible now for the Chefs to even get a wildcard?

Sure it is, Bravo! Theoretically speaking, they could still even win their division. Keep your chin up!

I'm even beginning to think my stumblef*ck 'Hawks might have a chance now.
