Paulie, who would be in the playoffs? Is anyone guaranteed a playoff spot yet?

I don't think anyone's clinched yet, John, but GB is close. Sorry I missed last week's post on this topic. It totally slipped my mind!

Anyway, if the playoffs started today:

    AFC
    ----
1st-round byes: Ugh, this one's tough. Denver would go because they've beaten San Diego head-to-head. Tennessee would win the South by virtue of beating Indy straight up. So to determine the winner of the 1st-round bye, you'd compare Miami to Tennessee. Because the Titans' AFC record is better, they'd go. So: Denver and Tennessee

    Wild Card matchups:
    Oakland at Miami
    San Diego at Pittsburgh

    NFC
    ----
1st-round byes: Green Bay and Tampa Bay

    Wild Card matchups:
    New Orleans at San Francisco
    Atlanta at Philadelphia

Obviously, the AFC West and NFC South are some quality divisions right now.

Green Bay could have clinched last week with a win over Minnesota and a Detriot loss, but alas, Favre is a complete doofus in the Metrodome once again, causing me lots of grief in my office full of loser ViQueen fans whose biggest accomplishment all season is beating the Pack once.

Well, except for Carolina, who have dropped the last 7 in a row, after a nice 3-0 start. Poor guys.

I'm really looking for Tampa Bay to crush NO, and hopefully keep NO out of the playoffs. Of course, GB is playing REALLY well lately, too.

Each of the divisions I've mentioned would send three of their four members to the playoffs. That's the most any division can ever send. So, bottom-dwellers like Carolina notwithstanding, those two divisions are currently the best in football. Six more games, though. Anything can happen (except for Seattle suddenly springing to life and making a playoff run - that's impossible. Losers).

Nope. Cincinnati's really close, but they still have a prayer. All they'd need is to win all their games and have everybody else lose all of theirs.

Now that Green Bay and Tampa Bay are no longer NFC Central Division Rivals, it could be the "Battle of the Bays" at the league championship game right before the Superbowl. Which would be funny for me, as I always remember the "Battle of the Bays" being a real laugher as a kid, the "Battle of the Bad" or else, my brothers' favorite term for a stinker game, the "Toilet Bowl."

Ha, with corporate sponsorship of college bowl games, I keep waiting to hear about the 2000 Flushes Toilet Bowl.

Cincy has no prayer. Too many teams to catch, and obviously no signs of life.

I am impressed with St Louis. They are really rolling now and a win without Faulk or Warner in the lineup is certainly unexpected.
