Tommy Madux update
I just saw a news clip that Tommy Maddux of the Pittsburgh Steelers was taken out of the stadium by an ambulance after receiving a hit to his back/neck. :(
He was on the field for 15 minutes....I hope they were just being overly cautious, but the announcers say it doesn't look good.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Pittsburgh Steelers went home looking for answers, relieved quarterback Tommy Maddox could move his arms and legs Sunday after being taken off the field in an ambulance.
In a 31-23 loss to the Tennessee Titans, Maddox was tripped up by safety Lance Schulters and tossed the ball to Antwaan Randle El as he fell forward. Linebacker Keith Bulluck hit Maddox's shoulder with his forearm, and Maddox rolled onto his head and did not move.

Maddox had no sensations, but was conscious and talking as he was strapped to a backboard. Trainers and doctors worked on him for at least 15 minutes, then Maddox was lifted onto a stretcher, loaded into an ambulance on the field and taken to Baptist Hospital's trauma unit.
Steelers spokesman Ron Wahl said Maddox had a bruised spinal cord and a concussion. Wahl said Maddox was awake and alert, had talked with his family and was able to move all of his extremities.
You know what else is amazing.
Donovan McNabb fractured his foot on the third play of the game, but played the entire game throwing four TD's, and now he is likely out for the rest of the season.
I mentioned that to my wife, Bill. She's a big football fan, anyway, but she immediately got all fired up and said, "Now that's a sport! Football and hockey are the only sports where guys just get stitched up and go back in. Can you imagine a baseball player doing that?" No. No, I can't. :)
True! Baseball players can't even manage to play in the rain...bunch of babies ;)
Maddox underwent X-rays, a CT scan and MRI exams Monday morning and no structural damage was detected, Yates said. Maddox was initially diagnosed with a spinal cord contusion -- a bruising and swelling that includes hemorrhaging -- but instead he has an interruption in the normal electrical activity in the spine.
That's a relief! It is so upsetting to see players down on the field at any time, but when they have to be taken away in an ambulance it is really scary.
I heard today that he was given a clean bill of health by the doctors and was allowed to return to Pittsburgh. No word on when or if he will play again this season.

Isn't that great news?
Maddox to dress for Steelers in Sunday's game
Nov. 23, 2002 1:55 p.m.
PITTSBURGH (AP)—Tommy Maddox will dress for the Steelers' home game against Cincinnati on Sunday, a week after a spinal cord injury against Tennessee.
Coach Bill Cowher said Maddox will be designated the third-string emergency backup. That means he can't play unless starter Kordell Stewart and backup Charlie Batch are both injured.
But even if that happens, Maddox won't play, Cowher said. Instead, wide receiver Antwaan Randle El, who played quarterback at Indiana, will be the emergency quarterback.
"It's part of his rehab - getting on the field, putting the pads on, putting the helmet on," Cowher said.
Doctors have said Maddox is completely recovered from his physical injuries, but may take awhile before he's mentally ready to play.
"It's fun to be back doing a little bit at a time," Maddox said. "Suiting up and going through all the normal things you go through in a week. I don't know if it's necessary, but it's important."
Maddox is expected to practice normally Monday and start against Jacksonville on Dec. 1.
