I didn't get that sense at all - he also said she was supposed to be one of the final 2 girls - he made about 3 references in total. I rewatched it last night because I thought I remembered he said it more than once and he did. How is that not in recent terms - why say that after he just let her go?? I didn't like it when we heard it from Ali about Frank, and I don't like Brad doing it either.

Hmmm now I am not sure. I was trying to listen hard because I really like Emily but I didn't feel Chantal was his F3 so I wondered if Ashley had stayed Emily would have gone so I was trying to convince myself otherwise. I have it on demand so I will watch it again (sucks, though because the video features (FF) are disabled so I need to run about an hour and a half's worth first.

you think maybe that's just TPTB replaying the same line over and over again to create doubt?

I've heard the same thing, too .... the same VO in many scenes... exact same phrasing with his voice. Oh, it's happened alot to the point, you HAVE to be paying close attention to when it fit best! That is frustrating to say the least!

I felt the same thing. He was talking to Chantal on their FD and seemed to say that she would meet his family.

He also told Michelle he wanted to meet her daughter.

That's the same impression i got.

Brad and Ashley's first date went so well that he really thought at that moment that she would be in his F2. But throughout the process her edit pointed to her leaving before.

Brad tends to, or maybe its the way he has been edited, to sound as if he's still feeling the way he felt months ago, eventhough things have clearly changed...just one more thing about him i don't get.

I have only seen a part of that date, but got a whole different impression than most people viewing did...maybe? I felt like it was two people, existing in the same space at the same time, each of them having fun in the situation, but not necessarily as a result of the company. i think the reason they were constantly finding themselves trying to assure themselves of their connection was because it wasn't really there in the first place.

It's not a real engagement, for any of them -- does that help? It's a declaration of a mutual wish to keep on dating without producers to tell them what to do, when, what to say, how to kiss, etc.

Even Ali who knew Roberto was the one she would say would admit, I'm sure that the real relationship grows later. The show can be how you met your mate. Not where you built even the foundation of marriage.

The show is a start of a relationship. This of it as one big party. Until you go back to your normal life it will not grow to what it should be.

I kind of agree with you. I find her too high energy for him- I don't mean physically but that she seems to be someone who is always "on". I think they liked each other but that there wasn't the connection that would lead to a long term relationship. Emily is young as well but she seems aged and mellow beyond her years and I think he is the type who might crave excitement but in the end needs calm.

I just watched the rose ceremony on youtube. What he says, in a voiceover, is "I always thought Ashley would meet my family. I always thought Ashley would be one of the last two women standing."

I guess you could look at it either way, in recent terms or past tense.

I rewatched that line and one second hearing I didn't get the idea that he was speaking in recent terms. Maybe it was meant that at some point during the show he had felt she'd be one of the girls meeting his family? I thought the intonation was more past tense.

I agree, I don't think Ashley was going to be be one of the F2 girls....I bet during the process he entertained the possibility of it, but to say that at any point he actually perferred her over Chantal or Emily... I don't believe that, otherwise that last date wouldn't have went so bad. Actually, their relationship took a turn for the worse in Anquilla when talking on the SI date.

how is a proposal not a real engagement? For all intents and purposes, when a man proposes to a woman and puts a ring on that finger, they are engaged. He's even saying he's engaged - or at least someone is.

Other leads have made this promise to date without the benefit of a proposal.

So agree. There have some that said it was a promise ring but for all intent I think those that did propose were caught up in the moment. Until they get back to their normal lives and get in the same city they won't know if it will grow or go kaput. I home it grows for those two.

Well i guess it boils down to what timeframe is "always" for Brad and how long did he really think she would be one of the F2. His frustration from her whinyness (if that is a real word) started very early on...so its beyond me how he would have picked her over Chantal who he had already established connection with in regards to meshing well and seeing a future together.
