    Re: Mia Michaels - Choreographer/Judge

Judges are there to comment on the choreography. It is their job. It is also their job to comment on the presence or lack of emotion and passion on the part of the dancers. However, there is a huge difference between constructive criticism and berating. Just as there is a difference in trying to quantify the correct number of teeth shown when smiling. It is my, and apparently quite a few other's, opinion that Mia crossed the line with Kherington. That is OUR job. We, after all, are the ultimate judges of what is right and wrong when it comes to reality/contest television show judges. Without the viewer's support, Mia will be judging from the comfort of her own living room before you know it. She would be wise to tone down her attitude.

I'm sorry, I found this a little harsh. I'm not trying to be the ultimate judge of "smiling"; this sounds absurd to me. All I am saying is that I found Kherington's smile a little too much for the dance and the music. This is my opinion, and I am entitled to it.

I agree that Mia crossed the line, but not by thinking what she thought, but by saying what she said in the way she said it. If our job is to be the ultimate judges of the judges in these shows, then every opinion counts; both yours and mine.

Funny thing is, I found this to be a bit harsh. But, that's the great thing about message boards. We all get to express our opinions.

Regarding opinions... I have to believe the expression on Jean-Marc's face expressed exactly what he thought of Mia's opinion. And, in the end, it's the choreographer's opinion that matters in this case.

Well, that's an expression, "smiling with 32 teeth", which means one is super happy. Like this

    Re: Mia Michaels - Choreographer/Judge

I find that most the judges do NOT make comments on the choreography - all the coreographers get a "pass". True, most the work is great - but at this point they just get kudos from the judges. What I end up listening to in order to figure out the REAL opinions of the judges about the choreography is to see if the judge merely says "That was a great piece choreographed by Blahdy Blah" or if they go on to heap extra praise on it. Occassionally, I have thought the choreography wasn't much to shout about and was happy to notice the judges praise was limited or even side-handed. One of the Mandy Moore routines I didn't like only got a "Mandy is a brilliant choreographer" compliment -- nothing praising the piece directly. I thought, ha! The judge was probably underwhelmed by it, too.

Also, it is annoying that the praise of the judges for the choreography seems to be coordinated - each dance a different judge praises the choreography, and it is rarely commented upon by more than one judge. Also, the obligatory camera shot to the choreographer in the audience is all cued up as well. It's a major showcase for the choreographers at this point - they are getting a lot more attention than previous seasons.

It is an entertainment show, but wouldn't it make it more interesting if the judges WOULD comment more honestly on their reactions to the job the choreographers did?

I love Mia's choreographies. She has a way of bringing out the best performance and emotion wise in the dancers. Both dances last night were riveting.

I may not like Mia as a judge, but damn! Those were two impressive routines last night. She was fortunate to have Katee/Joshua and Twitchington perform the routines. They brought the routines to life.

I didn't like her first routine lastnight but I kind of liked the second.

I enjoyed both routines a lot, but thought the second was fabulous. It didn't hurt that Twitch looked so hot, but I thought he emoted very well. I really believed it.
