Evan has the Benji factor going for him in some respects. He's NOT sexy at all, but you can't help but just love him to pieces. Seeing him dance makes you smile, sometimes cringe, and makes you relate to his "regular" factor. Not to mention he is AWESOME in his own genre.

I absolutely love Evan's solos. He really has the Gene Kelly/Donald O'Connor factor. I so wish he would get a genre that really shows that off. He's really only gotten a couple of numbers that showcased what he can do.

There's a cute 30 second video of Evan responding to his "critics". (Well, two girls hanging around outside the studio.) They ambushed him after last night's taping (tonight's show). Search you tube for "Evan Kasprzak to Skippy & Choo!"

He's sort of a hybrid between Nathan Lane and Donald O'Connor and Gene Kelly. Musical theatre would clearly, imo, be his best bet.

    The Evan Effect

In response to this from another thread:

I love to see the ballerinas, the broadway dancers, anything that's not contemporary or lyrical. I enjoy the variety of dancers, even if they turn out to be not as versatile as people had hoped. And I think Nigel may stop those dancers from making the top 20 if he fears they may have fans that will take them all the way to the win no matter what he says.
I hope the opposite. I hope that Evan wins so we WILL see a larger variety of dancer-types in future seasons.

I do believe that Evan is garnering some votes based on the "cute/aw shucks/sweet guy" factor. But I personally believe the main reason he's getting so many votes is because of his uniqueness of style.

Last year, when he auditioned, I was so excited. I was bitterly disappointed when he didn't make top 20. I love the Broadway/Gene Kelly style, don't see enough of it anymore, and wanted to see someone who specialized in that style do his thing on SYTYCD.

I want to see MORE of his kind. Maybe even people who are more TALENTED than Evan - multiple Broadway specialists competing against each other in a single season so they REALLY have to shine.

I believe Evan is garnering the majority of his votes NOT based on some teeny-bopper "ooh, he's so adorable" fanbase but from people like me who long to see a style of dance that mostly only exists on the Broadway stage today. If Evan wins - heck, even now with him in the top 4 - Lythgoe would be a brainless moron to not see how having Evan and dancers of his style get HUGE ratings and interest going for SYTYCD.

I do hope Ryan makes it to the top 20 this coming season - and I hope that ANOTHER dancer in the same style also makes it, so we can see some REAL competition go on, and see if my supposition bears fruit or just proves me to be full of crap.

I've seen season after season now of particular emphasis put on contemporary dancers, a genre I admit I didn't really "get" prior to SYTYCD. SYTYCD has given me a HUGE, new appreciation for contemporary/lyrical dance. Likewise ballroom and hip hop. But I am a little tired of seeing this type of dancer overwhelm the to 20 spots season after season after season - mix it up a bit! Adding Melissa this year was great - that "naughty ballerina" kicked some major a$$ in AND out of toeshoes. Evan might not have been the most versatile, adaptable Broadway dancer, so let's have another - and another - and let's see what they can do when the novelty wears off and they REALLY have to wow the viewers.

So I'm wishing much, much luck to Evan. And to Ryan. And to tap dancers like Bianca. And off-the-wall Lyrical dancers like Natalie (who was robbed, IMNSHO). And dancers in styles I haven't even heard of yet.

    Vive la difference.
