I was so impressed by the relationship between Quincy and his sister! She is sooo supportive of him, and you can really see the love between them. When he stumbled at the end of his routine, I thought, "Oops!" He's still getting used to that prosthetic leg, but then later he said that he still had a fracture in his ankle, and a rod in it. Talk about determination! I loved it when he said, "This is for me...not you all (talking aobut the judges)." What a wonderful young man.

Hawk is amazing at that he does, I would love to see him make it to audience voting so we can see how he does with the other styles.

I know . . . all the while with a smile on his face nor bitter bone in his body. Very impressive.

    Thanks!

I was so bummed- they only showed Lauren in a montage of dancers they sent through to Vegas! About as much as they showed last week

I guess they can't show everyone who goes through. Maybe she'll be featured in the Vegas rounds.

Also- the Filipino guy who partnered with sobstorygirl in LA in the choreography round, who they showed not going through to Vegas after choreography, is Arjay Centeno, another champion West Coast Swing dancer. I'm pretty sure his partner, Melissa Rutz, was the one they paired up with Golden Boy or whoever he was in the same choreography round.

They're both excellent- especially Melissa- I wouldn't be surprised if she got sent through to Vegas even though Arjay didn't. At least in the WCS world, Melissa has more "swing cred" than Lacey Schwimmer (Benji's little sis)- Melissa's easily one of the top five female west coast swing dancers out there right now. Lacey's recognizable and sometimes competes at champion level, but can't really hold a candle to Melissa. I think it would be kind of odd if Lacey makes it further than Melissa in the Vegas rounds. Lacey's good and all, no question. But Melissa's undoubtedly better.

FYI, you can also see Melissa Rutz dancing with Benji Schwimmer as Christina Aguilera's dance double in her "Candyman" video!

ETA: And I, too, am SO happy to see Hawk back!!!
And I sing sometimes like my life is at stake because you're only as loud as the noises you make.

If you think back to last year, you won't see many of the final 20 in these audition episodes. I knew several dancers who made it to Vegas last year and I rarely, if ever, saw them in any of the videos/shows. I think that tptb find the really good dancers boring, unless there is some other story involved.

I liked Hok, but unless he took classes all last year to make himself an all around dancer, I can't see him making the final cut. He had a year to train, so maybe he's ready to do all styles this year.

I missed the show - wasn't there a girl that got injured or sick last year that was told to come back this year...was there mention of her? I seem to remember she didn't have to attend any auditions, just reenter at the Vegas level? Is that right?

Yeah, NFL1. We were talking about that in the main SYTYCD thread back before the show started. It seems that the best anyone can remember she auditioned in one of the Carolina's maybe? But since she was told she could re-enter in Vegas, my guess is we won't hear about her until these first rounds are over. But then, if she shows up, you can bet tptb will play up her story.

Thanks vanillalatte, this is the first I've jumped into this show topic since last year. I don't usually watch audition episodes (either AI or here), and come in for the Vegas/Hollywood weeks. I look forward to catching up with everyone's favs then.

It's good to see Hok again, even though his moves weren't as impressive as last time. He's still a lock for the Top 20 though.

Benji's sister wasn't really that impressive. I've seen her cousin Heidi perform way better than that. She's going to have to really step it up if she wants to make it into the Top 20. Stanislav's sister can dance circles around her for the moment.

Morgan's pretty much a lock for the Top 20, that's if she can perform consistently well and not crack under pressure because Vegas is really going to put these hopefuls to the test. I hope she doesn't have a total meltdown like Lynn-Rae did last season. But then again, Lynn-Rae probably snorted up way too many "white lines".

Yay, AWESOME dancers from Chicago, thank god! Last year, not so good.

    Hok is BACK! <3

OMG, this is so mean, but they were absolutely correct about the girl that they suggested get another career...she was HORRID.

Quincy and one arm girl made me cry. Quirky girl with all the great moves they let in was wonderful, and her enthusiam for dance was catching.

Looking forward to a great new season!
