I'm watching for the House Band and the performers. I don't know that I cared that much for INXS (their music, that is--I loved their personalities) last season, but I thoroughly enjoyed the show.
Supernova is supposed to be the "bad boys" and are trying to play that role. More often than not, I find them humorous, whether intentional or not. I'm still watching and enjoying the show.
Judging from their debut track, SN is not going to be anything like GnR or Metallica. They simply don't have the song-writing or musical abilities of Axl Rose or James Hetfield. Actually, some of the contestants can individually do better than SN (I'm thinking Ryan and Dilana). Supernova means a "dying star" - that's what these guys are. Just trying to salvage some of their past in this late stage of their career and make some money in the process for their extravagant lifestyle. But I'm watching it for the rocker performances.
I like the guys as the panel. I think they are fun and have actual constructive criticism (sometimes). I think the "you should be wearing less clothes" comments to the ladies are pretty classless, but whatever.
Musically - I think the Supernova music stinks. Both of the original songs have been absolute trash, IMHO. But I do enjoy the contestants' performances very much. Now that Patrice is gone, I think all the remaining performers are very talented and would be better off not winning and being stuck singing that crappy music.
Last year I watched 'cause I was curious, always like INXS and then really got a kick of of watching them perform (esp. MiG, Marty and Ty). This year I watched despite the guys who make up SuperNova. It's not that I think they're completely untalented but, let's face it, the only people the producers can get to be the "rock stars" for this type of shows are has-beens. I think Gilby, Jason and even Tommy are all really good musicians--I'm just not a fan of them, per se--and they've all seen better days.
Gilby and Jason tend to give constructive criticism. Tommy is a lech and touring with him would be hell for any woman, I would think. What's kind of boyish about him on stage for a few minutes would seem like being locked in fraternity hell in a small tour bus...
Wow, I had no idea people were bothered so much by the attitudes of the band. When I hear the sexist or sophomoric jokes, I tend to agree with Shrinking Violet. I just find them amusing.
I do watch SuperNova (name sucks). I believe there are some real good contestants. I just really don't see any ROCK in much of this. The group SuperNova, whoever they pick, will just do a few concerts, maybe put out a mediocre cd, then fade away to wherever!!! Dave Navarro needs to keep his producers nose out of it, and focus on the contestants vocals, not stir up more BS. Its hard to watch when he opens his mouth about media. Maybe if he kept his mouth shut,(and his pants on) he'd still have his beautiful wife instead of a washed up skanky porn star-lol
Navarro is there as a JUDGE and a CRITIQUE about anything that goes on in the mansion, and on stage. As he said, he knows first hand how to get in trouble with the media.....it's Navarro's job to bring up things like this and he's doing it great!Originally Posted by catisgma
