I see you up there LA Guy! This is what I would like to know this week:
What was said during Ryan & Jason's argument as best you can remember it. The whole thing was edited out, which pissed me off to no end. Especially since the show ran about 5 minutes short and they easily had time to cover at least some of it.
Also, what did Phil say that caused Suave Porn to be so disgruntled with him? That wholoe segment was edited so badly that I bet the viewers who don't follow on the Internet had no idea what was going on. At least we have some idea (newspaper article) but I'd like to know what was said at the taping.
The race is back!
You're going to have to help me out a bit here and name a song Zayra's done well with. Because I can't think of a single performance that wasn't absolutely atrocious.

Phil is taken aback when confronted by this, but does admit that he didn’t like “the Supernova riff” (or something like that). Tommy, meanwhile, looks like he’s just been stabbed in the heart. He turns to the other Rockers and warns all of them NOT to make the band or their work look bad with the media or in the press. I think it was Gilby who then wanted Phil to know that Tommy was absolutely crushed to be letting him go and that he hadn't wanted to do it.
Oooooooh! Thanks LAGuy! Why don't they keep that stuff in? They could cut some of last night's highlights and show that stuff instead.
When you watch you'll see that they cut EVERYTHING you said about Ryan and Jason getting into it. That would have made good TV, too.
Makes sense they'd cut the bit about Phil - why would they want to publish his negative comments about Supernova even more widely than he has already done? But I'm glad I know what the deal was. That was an incredibly dumb thing for him to say. He deserved to go home. If you don't like the band, then go home and let the people who want the gig stay another week.
I'm amazed that Barberella aka Zayra didn't get cut--she is tone deaf! I couldn't believe that Tommy Lee and Jason were standing up in an ovation for thatcrapola she did! You know ,she is in another category entirely in the long list of deluded reality show contestants(think upper ecehlon weird and clueless), and I have nicknamed her the Z in honor of her pretensions---she thinks she is a one name diva but I can't dignify that concept by writing out her whole name! I thought Phil was weak too but come on,pretty or not,the Z had to go! I also think Patrice shouldn't have been there in the B3 and Jill deserved to be bottom three--she screams every song! I actually thought Storm was the best the other night and that Magni is a credible candidate for the gig--he had a great vocal for Heroes--a song that David Bowie performs almost motionless, so why was Supernova dinging him for his performance....the irony! Dilani had her first so-so outing to me--she just did not have the vocals for that Lauper song. She has the intensity and performance, but at some point, her voice alone is going to sell the songs on radio---I don't know if her vocals will cut it on CD--she absolutely kills live,so that is not a problem for a tour. The one with the best voice is Dana, but she is just too babe in the woods for this band, and will not get the gig. Dana and Storm would have KILLED CALL ME!
Jill sucks vocally, but I agree that the grinding comment was a WTF moment--what is Rockand Roll without sex? And then for Gilby to bring up HEARTas an anti-example--the Wilson sisters just about INVENTED bustiers for Rock singers in videos--BAD example,GIlby! And at the same time, the band told Jenny to eat a sandwich and then slobber over Storm and Dana every time--which is it? And now they keep the Z,when all she has going for her is that model look and spandex--lol! Mixed Messages indeed!
It makes you wonder how much label input is going into these cuts--is there pressure to have a fine woman in the videos for this group, like Fergie and her totally incongrous but wildly successful hookup with the Black eyed Peas guys? (I can envision some record label executive at home howling at Gilby through the screen last night, "No! You dummy! OF course there will be Grinding in the videos for the teenage guys--are you nuts?!!!") Or is this dubious cut some Mark Burnett manipulation stuff for ratings? I think I heard Brooke say something about the Z getting a huge number of MSN searches on the performance show...and I wondered then if that would play into the proceedings....and now it seems it probably has! Inquiring minds want to know!
Also,I want to know how in the WORLD is Dilana is 4 years younger than Storm--Storm is 37 and looks 27 or less--her beauty regimen rocks, just like her singing! She has the looks for MTV etc,and could send a video into heavy rotation but still has a voice that is real and authentic rock.
Seriously, I think Storm could very possibly get the gig and final three is Storm,Dilana and Magni--all contenders with something to bring to the table imo. I want to hear the contestants sing on some of these new Supernova tracks too. Looking forward to next week!
I agree with what a lot of you guys are saying--keeping Zayra is an entertainment decision for reality TV--not a valid artistic choice. When Brooke announced that Zayra was the top search on MSN, I knew that regardless of performance that she would survive. She does not deserve to. I cannot believe that so called professional musicians cannot even muster the most cogent criticism of this woman--SHE SINGS FLAT! Not once have they mentioned how flat and off tune this woman is. The person they cut, Phil, has a wobbly head--so what? Many great or good stars had idiosyncratic moves--Joe Cocker was spastic, Robert Plant did an awkward chest thrust a lot--the list goes on. Fans can accept different moves if the person can sing. He proved he can sing on White rabbit and with a little grooming, he could probably fit right in to the glam rock/glam metal type music SN was playing on the tape as representative of their new songs.
As to the rest of the show--Storm was totally on and she looks like a contender but I do not think they want a woman to front this band. A woman might be good though as it would give them a new angle to promote. Lets face it-Supernova is not the most viable project on paper:
its members have not had any recent hits-they really need the boost this show can give them to help promote this band
Tommy Lee is more well known for his sex life than his musicianship but he is a household name(for what it is worth)
Gilby was not even in the original line up of GNR and is not that well known
Jason was in Metallica and is also not a household name
a female fronting them--especially one like Storm or Dilena would certainly add a fresh promotional angle and Storm has both the voice, stage presence and the looks to carry it off. I love Dilena's live performances on the show but I am concerned about her vocal range and she looks very old--a drawback when promoting a video, etc.
I think the band is not going to pick a female--I see Magni getting the gig-he is a credible rock singer and is experienced and has good enough stage prescence. Do I see Magni as being as promotable as a Storm or a Dilena? No. But I think they will make this wrong decision in the end--just like INXS did. INXS got excited by the song "Dirty Vegas" and gloomed onto JD Fortune as a way to ensure a hit single to promote their new album. Guess what--Dirty Vegas was a moderate hit but the album tanked in sales as JD was apparently not much of an asset to the rest of the album. They have had some success on the road but if you read the reviews--the opening act--runner-up Marty Casey and his lovehammers has gotten the best reviews. Had INXS really paid attention, the person who was the most versatile of the two finalists was Marty--he had the most riveting versions of the songs he sang--not even Baby one more time could stop his performance quality and he did well with the INXS hits. His version of Creep was especially good and his original song Trees could have been a big hit if it had been cut as a single. Marty was also more physically attractive than JD--especially important for promotion when the rest of the band looks like frogs--old 1980's frogs at that.
I see Supernova going down a similar wrong direction and they too may end up with a relatively unexciting choice for vocals, promotion, etc. I am dubious about the longevity of this band from what I am seeing on the show as they have no real track record.
I was posting when some of you guys were posting that info about Phil--that was incredibly stupid of him and makes the cut not so unexplainable but the rest of my comments are still valid about the elimination show. Thanks for the info on Phil--I did not have a chance to read your posts before I finished typing my own post.
Actually, for some reason, Tommy Lee did pretty well with "The Ride"- that is a pretty recent hit.

LOL--"old 1980's frogs"---I love it! It describes INXs to a tee! They are unrecognizable NOW versus their appearance in the old videos-- I saw "I need you tonight" on VH1 classic and couldn't believe how much they have changed. And I agree that Marty was a better choice to update them than JD but INXS was looking at the arranging skills and lyrics of JD versus Marty, and Pretty Vegas was a little better than Trees to me--it has charted and Trees has not to date. Actually,Marty would have been a good choice for this edition of Rockstar!
