    Magni

ive seen on Magni's space that people reccommended Immigrant song by Led Zeppelin, they say the song relates a bit to Iceland, and it makes sense..
if you really listen to the lyrics...

    Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!

On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.

    Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war. We are your overlords.

On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.

So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing.

    Ooh, Ooh, Ooh
    Ooh, Ooh, Ooh
    LaLalLaLalLaLa
    Ooh, Ooh, Ooh
    Ooh,Ooh,Ooh
    Ooh, Ooh, Ooh

[QUOTE=Krom;1976471]But a good singer can take tofu and make meat out of it. ... if you are on a higher rung of talent, and you also know the band's sensibility, the song doesn't matter nearly as much as it does if you are more limited in your talent.

    How very true!:

And, I think that explains what is going on with the song selection process.

IMO, there are always a few "odd" choices made available to see if anyone has the guts or ability to make them over into a rock version. There are also "safe and easy" choices for contestants to fight over.

By approaching the song selections in that way, the band members get to see what innovative abilities these "wannabe" rockers have to offer, how much risk they are willing to take.

I am not a reality TV fan, nor have I ever been a big rock fan, but I have to admit, I am absolutely hooked on this show. I have thorougly enjoyed reading the comments that everyone on this website have shared; many have had me rolling on the floor in uncontrolled fits of laughter!

BTW, my husband, a music fanatic, has made a few music selections of his own; he would like to see/hear the following contestants/songs:

Magni -- Waitress in the Sky (Replacements)

Lukas -- Teenage Head (Flamin' Groovies)

Dilanna or Patrice -- Rock N Roll (Lou Reed)

    I'm definitely stayin' tuned!

I think Z should do I Touch Myself by The Divinyls. She'd nail the chorus.

One of them should sing Avenged Sevenfold's "Seize The Day". Very good song. A mix of G'n'R and Velvet Revolver.

Now that Squatman has me seeing Ryan's similarities to Chris Cornell, I would love to see him do Burden In My Hand by Soundgarden!

Nice, they've already done two of the songs I suggested. Although I wasn't impressed with Ryan's version of Enjoy The Silence. Failure's cover of that song was much better and modern as well.

Well, finally someone sung a Depeche Mode song (Ryan) although i did not like his version. "Enjoy the Silence" is really sung in a nonchalant way, not screaming. If he wants to scream a DM song , "I Feel You" would have been more appropriate. Still yet to hear The Cure (Never Enough, In Between Days) and The Smiths (Headmasters Ritual, Big Mouth Strikes Again).

Also I want to hear "Dear God" by XTC, "Break it Down Again" and "Mothers Talk" by Tears for Fears, "It's My Life" by Talk Talk, "Absolute Reality" by the Alarm, "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes, "What's the Frequency Kenneth" by REM and any U2 songs.

Canadian Idol had some Whitesnake(Here I Go Again). Still Of The Night would be great, even Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City.

I hate the idea behind the Request Week (link). You're given four choice for each performer: three songs they've already performed and one wild-card that someone else has already sung.

    Eg Storm's Choices:
    "Anything, Anything," Dramarama
    "Changes," David Bowie
    "We Are The Champions," Queen
"Bring Me to Life," Evanescence (wildcard option)

I don't want to hear Storm sing "Bring Me to Life", but we're not given that much of a choice cause it's a no-brainer that everyone will go for the wildcard, just like they did last season.
