I too think they were leaning towards JD a lot earlier than what they said (their performance with him in the finale). It was still a hard decision, because Marty was phenomal too. I have most of JD's songs from Rockstar INXS, as well as Marty's, and you can hear the how they grew vocally from the first song to the last.
