For me, if Marty didn't make it with INXS, he's still a winner and gonna be success especially with Trees.
I forgot already how JD song goes, but Marty just sang Trees once before tonight show, and I still remember how it goes

As the lone wolf out here I just have to say I still don't get the Marty adulation. I think vocally he is at the bottom of these 4 remaining, & his scary conductor act is just wierd. He lost me on both songs last night & if I was a member of INXS I would be a little leery of someone that has thoughts of changing what has worked so well for us in the past. I know a band is all about collaboration, but total change in style doesn't seem to be in the cards. The music for Pretty Vegas shows that the INXS sound hasn't changed as much as Marty would change it.

If I don't ever hear the song "Trees" again, I'll be a happy camper. What a silly song! I do like Marty, but those lyrics are terrible, imo.

I agree, razorback, that Marty seems to want to totally change INXS style. Change is good, but it needs to go slow, not abruptly, like Marty seems to want to do.

If JD doesn't win, I wouldn't mind at all if Marty or even Suzie wins.

The only band that had success with radical change from their initial style was The Beatles. Even Bob Dylan caught a LOT of flack and lost fans when he switched from accoustic guitar to electric. People thought he had sold out. So fans are not so receptive to big changes from their favorite bands. And Marty seems to be proposing big screaming changes.

While I really enjoyed his first rendition of trees

    The acoustic version was underwhelming.

A couple of his songs I have really really enjoyed, but something about Marty really bothers me. He seemed smarmy in his interview and the juxtaposition of his scream singing with Michael Jackson type talking voice confuses me.

I loved when he sang wish you were here.

I think he will do fine and make his old band famous, but he doesn't work for inxs.

Vanhalen made a habit out of changing leads and did quite well.

Jordis has 5 (Man Who Sold The World, Imagine, Try Not, Knocking On Heaven's Door, and Heart Shaped Box).
Suzie has 2 (Bohemian Rhapsody and Soul Life).
JD has 1 (Pretty Vegas, currently at #2).
Mig has 1 (Baby I Love Your Way).

I wonder if INXS is paying attention to this data? This is the purchasing public.
I hadn't really thought about this before, but I wonder how much of these rankings are their performance and how much is the song selection? Not to knock anyone of course, but I wouldn't buy a download unless I liked the song regardless who was singing it. Of course there are a few cases where the singer takes a new angle on a song and makes me like it!!

Depends on if you were a Van Halen fan or not. I saw them with both Roth and Hager. Preferred Roth.

But what I was getting at was musical styles, not band members. Most bands don't really change their musical styles all that radically. Except for the Beatles. And Dylan. Radical changes usually are not accepted well by fans.

I really wonder how concerned INXS should be about keeping their old fans. They have no guarantee of keeping them no matter who they choose. I agree they have a better chance of keeping them if they go with JD, Mig or even Suzi. However, I also think they have a better chance of being considered an oldies act with a new singer if they choose one of those three. As Marty has tried to point out music and the music business has changed a lot over they years. It's riskier to choose Marty but I think if they are serious about wanting to avoid comparisons to Michael and going in a new direction then I think it would be the smart choice. Otherwise, they might wind up just being one of those bands that does a lot of touring to play their old hits over and over. Thanks

A concern that one of the band members mentioned in their blog was the issue of comparison with MH. I understood this to be something they wish to avoid. In other blog post Marty was described as humble and I think the comments about control are a red herring. Marty showed his (lack of) confrontational nature when JD chose to not participate in the song writing clinic which Marty was the lead. This illustrated that while Marty did have a clear idea of what he wants he does not have a pushy nature. His approached showed that he expected everyone to be working with the same agenda. JD showed the opposite in that clinic.
