UPN's Missy Elliott Series Hits the 'Road' in January
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Shortly after the run of the third season of "America's Next Top Model" and shortly before the run of the fourth season of "America's Next Top Model," UPN has set a premiere date for its next female-skewing dramality series. "The Road to Fame with Missy Elliott" will premiere on Wednesday, Jan. 5 in the "ANTM" 8 p.m. ET slot.
In the 10-episode series, 13 aspiring vocalists and performers will join Grammy winner Elliott in her tour bus, traveling around the country living together, training together and competing for a $100,000 prize and, almost incidentally, the chance at musical stardom.
After a lengthy audition process, the show selected an initial group of singers and rappers between the ages of 18 and 29 and the performers will be put through weekly paces to become well-rounded performers. Each week, they'll be judged by Elliott and fellow critics singer/songwriter/producer/performer Teena Marie, Grammy Award-winning producer Dallas Austin and Mona Scott, president of Violator Management.
In addition to winning the cash prize, Elliott will sign the winner to her label and release their first single.
In addition to a successful recording career that has yielded 17 MTV Award nominations, two Grammy awards, an American Music Award, three BET Awards and five Lady Of Soul/Soul Train Awards, Elliott and collaborator Timbaland have helped shape music for artists including Aaliyah, 702, Justin Timberlake and Destiny's Child.
Mona Scott and Jessica Horowitz created "The Road to Fame" and Elliott is on-board as a co-executive producer. "Big Brother" gurus Arnold Shapiro and Allison Grodner are executive producers along with Scott, Jay Blumenfield and Anthony Marsh.
