| Re: Review - I Survived a Japanese Game Show Well, as far as the music goes, I noticed they can't help but drop in that little cliched Charlie Chan tune every once in a while, in the background. Hey, don't blame ME for mixing up cultures, THEY are the ones doing it. Just out of curiosity, am I the only one somewhat weirded out by the bizarre asymmetricality of Rome Kanda's face? ![]()

| Re: Review - I Survived a Japanese Game Show What's interesting to me is that as the episodes have flown by, I've noticed that the people I THOUGHT would be awesome pre-show are the lame ones, and the ones I kind of assumed pre-show would be lame are the awesome ones. I mean, Meagan, for example, at first blush seemed like she'd be shallow and a bit dim, but has been revealed to be pleasantly quirky and reasonably bright. Darnell seemed at the beginning like he'd be kind of cool, but has been revealed to be a real toad. Even the "angry black woman" cliche has been totally unseated by Bilenda--who is just awesome.

| Re: Review - I Survived a Japanese Game Show Okay...how lame is our family? We sit on the couch and yell majide!! and do the hand sign while this show is on, and then laugh like idiots. Yeah, I really like Bilenda. I cracked up when they carried off Darnell by mistake instead of Cathy. Not to easy to mix those two up. | |

That was absolutely hysterical! I loved the technicians/producers (whatever) yelling in their headsets and calling them idiots! | |

| Re: Review - I Survived a Japanese Game Show Belinda is my favorite! She's just really fun & cool. I have also been pleasantly surprised by Meagan I liked Donnell until he turned his back on Olga, & every week since then he has shown what an ass he is. I can't stand him. I love the host, Judge Bob & the Sayonara Guys (that's what I call them). They're freaking nuts! Quote:

| Re: Review - I Survived a Japanese Game Show Time to see the "Yell-o Pengie Teeeam" dismantle itself. Three of them, with the two guys tightly allied, so you KNOW they are going to realize REALLY soon that one of them has to go to elimination. Its the choosing that will break them up, unless they somehow both vote for Bilenda and then willingly risk allowing Belinda to pick which one of them goes (and she actually goes along with that). EDIT - Or Andrew can go what he did. Give himself up to being the goat. Eek. Meanwhile, the "Green Mon-keee teeeam" insincerely promises each other that they are "friends" again. And um... Pizza is actually pretty common in Tokyo. They just put weird stuff like corn, and curry, on it. It's just that its street food, that's why that fancy restaurant had never made it, not because they were unfamiliar with it.

I Survived a Japanese Game Show (ABC) - Reviews from Metacritic But they don't know everything. Variety even said "The Japanese fascination with absurd stunts (dressing two players as huge bugs and having them splat against a wall, for example) and public humiliation as good TV fun has a rather acrid taste stripped of cultural context." Which shows Variety didn't even watch the show, since in actuality "Japanese Gameshow" has been heavy laden with Japanese culture. The show is just plain fun. And the humiliation aspects are actually a lot tamer than people assume, I think. Nothing was worse than dressing in a funny suit and falling down a lot. American shows like "Fear Factor", "America's Funniest Home Videos", "Wipeout" and "Moment of Truth" are as bad, or in some cases far worse. This last task is actually VERY Amazing Race like. It's a nice change-up from the earlier episodes, although I appreciate them too for what they were. Oh. And Bilenda? That was probably the single classiest Reality Show exit I've ever seen.
