Re: The Real Housewives of New Jersey

Don't you just hate it when you go on vacation and end up in a bar fight? Oh, that doesn't happen to everyone?

(This fight was discussed earlier in the thread, but now there's been a lawsuit filed.)

The "Real Housewives of New Jersey" are in hot water after allegedly beating up a cop while vacationing in the Dominican Republic.

Several members of the cast have been accused of beating up and injuring an Illinois cop and his cousin earlier this year during a raucous brawl at a posh Punta Cana resort, according to two lawsuits made public today.

Adolfo Arreola, who works for the University of Illinois at Chicago's police department, suffered a broken arm, blurred vision, cuts and bruises after some members of the cast "savagely beat, kicked, punched, scratched, jumped" on him, The Chicago Tribune reported.

He also claims that a glass was smashed over his head.

Arreola's cousin, Jason Gomez, suffered a broken leg and a torn MCL in the melee, according to the newspaper.

The cousins both filed lawsuits in New York and Miami alleging that they and their families were at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino bar on Feb. 23 when Teresa Giudice sprayed champagne on Arreola’s mother-in-law.

After Arreola said he confronted Giudice, he was attacked by cast members that included her husband, Joe, and Albert and Christopher Manzo, the sons of cast member Caroline Manzo.

In the suits, Arreola and Gomez allege that that the cast and crew had been served "excessive amounts of alcohol" at the bar and became "intoxicated, belligerent and rowdy."

Bravo, the cable channel that airs the show, is named in the complaint.

    A Bravo spokesman declined comment.

Kathy's children are so nice. I hope Bravo doesn't ruin it by showing a nasty streak in either of them. And the daughter is a sweet and pretty girl. Nice to see.

You can take "La Familia" out of Jersey but you can't take the Jersey out of "La Familia"!

One thing I didn't understand in this article...how come they filed law suits in NY and Miami if they were in the Dominican Republic?

We don't know which court, and we don't know all of the named defendants. If it's Federal, there could diversity jurisdiction. I find it interesting that two separate actions were brought in two venues simultaneously, though. NYC is Bravo TV's corporate home. Miami is the Hard Rock's. They would be the "deep pocket" defendants, don't you think?

The Baltimore Sun's article on this is linked below. It includes more details about the brawl - more than previously published. After reading it, I have to say that I totally get why Danielle was afraid of these people. They are animals.

It's a crazy story. It'll be interesting to know (if we ever know) what really happened (hopefully Bravo will be forced to release the video). According to previous articles, Teresa did spray champagne on another bar patron, but that's where the stories diverge. It was reported earlier that one of the other men threw the first punch at Teresa in the face, while these new reports claim that the NJ thugs/animals (prejudicial for sure, but we've seen these folks in action) threw the first blow.

There are pictures of the two men who are bringing the lawsuites linked on TMZ (I would provide the link, but I'm not sure it's allowed on this board). They're easy to find though.

It's also claimed that Teresa was not touched, much less punched. Nor were the other women. And that she sprayed a 53 y.o. grandmother in the face with champagne, deliberately drenching her, and then mocked her as she tried to wipe it out of her eyes. I really hope the video enters public domain.

When Jacqueline learned that her husband was buying irresponsible Ashley a new car, apparently against Jacqueline's wishes, and he told her that SHE would co-sign for Ashley......where was the word, "No!"? Judge Judy says co-sign for no one....not even your children. SHE is right! It's stupid.

You either get the loan in YOUR name, or wait until the child can get the loan on their own.

It made me wonder, too, why he didn't sign. Then I remembered that he filed for bankruptcy (for his business). I wonder if that's affected his personal credit so negatively that he is unacceptable to a lender as a co-signer? And if so, why isn't Jackie's credit score in the hopper, too?

Judge Judy must see a lot of deadbeats. I have co-signed car loans and leases for my kids. They met those obligations dutifully and on time. Last month I co-signed a car loan for my sister whom I'd trust with my life. I know that she'll make her car payments, barring the loss of her health or her job. And in such circumstances, that car payment would be the least of my heartaches.

Judge Judy can scratch my whiskers!

I also wondered why Jac had to be the co-signer. Maybe:

    1. Poppy's theory about Chris' business bankruptcy
    2. Jac has her Bravo job, and it's easier to show earnings than whatever Chris is doing now, if anything
    3. There has to be some sort of endorsement deal between Jeep and Bravo. To get the discount, the lease agreement had to be signed by Jac since she has the contract with Bravo.
