Casting Call for TBS's The Real Gilligan's Island

    http://comingsoon.net/news.php?id=5062

Boarding has begun for TBS's new reality series The Real Gilligan's Island as the network hosts open casting calls in various regions of the country. Producers will travel to six different locations over the next month to find real-life people who fit the profiles of the original cast.

The following is a complete schedule for The Real Gilligan's Island open casting call:

    Saturday, June 12; Wichita 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
    Sunday, June 13; Pratt, Kansas 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
    Saturday, June 19; Boston 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
    Thursday, June 24; Tampa 2 - 10 p.m.
    Sunday, June 27; Miami 2 - 10 p.m.
    Saturday, July 10; Los Angeles 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The Real Gilligan's Island is a new reality series based on the popular sitcom about seven stranded castaways. The new show will feature a group of people who personify the original Gilligan's Island: a real-life skipper, first mate, millionaire couple, movie star, Kansas farm girl and professor, who, as on the 1960's sitcom, will work together to try to get off the island. Episodes will be modeled after some of the situations that occurred in the original series.

While the producers encourage auditioners to come dressed as their "castaway of choice," neither costumes nor dead-on physical resemblance is a requirement. Producers are looking for people whose true-life experience mirrors that of the passengers of the original S.S. Minnow, such as an authentic Kansas farm girl, a real skipper or an actual professor. Anyone who is interested in participating, but unable to attend an open call, may also log onto TBS.tv or call the toll-free casting hotline at 888-634-4550 for an application and address where they can submit tapes by Wednesday, June 30.

The Real Gilligan's Island, set to premiere on TBS in Fourth Quarter 2004, is executive-produced by Mike Fleiss (The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, High School Reunion). The creator of the original Gilligan's Island sitcom, Sherwood Schwartz, and his son, Lloyd Schwartz, will also serve as executive producers.

The show is produced for TBS by Next Entertainment and DAWN Syndicated Productions, Inc., in association with Telepictures Productions. Warner Bros. International Television Distribution will be selling the international format rights to the series, as they have for Next Entertainment/Telepictures Productions' The Bachelor.
Ok, I swear I'm the only who's PUMPED about this reality show.

It's kind of odd they are doing not one, but TWO casting calls in Kansas, eh?

I think it sounds good as long as it is not all scripted and obviously set up. If they actually had to figure out how to get off the island and take care of themselves while they're there without rewards like Survivor gives then that would be a good show!

hmm...so they actually decided to hold the casting in the cities where the fictional characters were supposed to be from, interesting.

this should be fun as long as producers stop interfering so much

    Too Cool

I wonder how much it will be like Giligan's Island? Part of me loves the idea, and the other half thinks although not identical to Survivor (which I never watched--have no interest in that one, but then again, I never thought I'd watch Big Brother, either--and I did), it's too similar.

I could never be on a reality show like that, though, I am too picky of an eater (and FORGET Fear Factor due only to the food factor).

My money is on the Gilligan character being a plant, his job will be to screw up whatever scheme the rest of the cast is working on...
