Project Runway isn't Big Brother, but IF Michael had said anything about Ivy during the button drop I am sure at least one camera (or perhaps a mic) would have picked it up.

Wretched Gretchen and Poison Ivy have basically said that Michael, Nina, Heidi and any guest judge making an appearance, have NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT.

The thing is, if they were confronted about what they said backstage, I am 100% confident that they'd either deny it, say it was taken out of context, or change their tunes.

They're yapping away about his "poor construction skills," but the judges applauded those skills in deliberation tonight. And then he won. Priceless! Very happy for him. The whole thing about Ivy saying Michael C. was trying to sabotage her at the viewing party/event and trash talking her... I think it's a load of crud! Much like with the "scandals" on shows like the Bachelor, IMO, if it happened, they'd have it on film. So we're supposed to believe that Michael was running his mouth off constantly about Ivy and saying all these awful things in that room full of people, and yet Lifetime didn't put one nanosecond of it on TV? Nope. Not buying it. I believe him. Ivy and Gretchen are two of the most obnoxious contestants this show has ever seen. Gretchen's behavior last week and her continued "Oh, woe is me!" act this week, along with trashing Michael C., has officially made her my least favorite contestant, ever. When a contestant makes me start seeing varying degrees of good points in Santino, Christian, Jeffrey, and Irina (all designers I LOATHED due to their attitudes; add in Emilio too), then that's a pretty darned bad reflection on their part.
Excellent point about past designers! I was sitting there last night thinking, "Has there been a designer in the past that I've hated so much?" I couldn't think of any. Yes, there have been annoying designers. Last season I was SO glad that Emilio didn't win because his attitude bugged me. And Santino irritated me, too. Now, though, I look back and think, Geesh, those guys were minnows compared to Wretchen and Hivy. Talk about Wicked Witches. Which makes me thing, what the heck has happened to my favorite show? This train wreck is not PR, at least not the show I loved in seasons past. This is Survivor/Big Brother, only instead of wrestling in the mud they make clothes. I hate it. pissedoff I am seriously contemplating not watching the rest of the season because I can't stand it. I mean, in the previews at the end last night, didn't they show somebody actually getting into a physical fight in the workroom? How vulgar can you get? This show used to be about high fashion, and class and elegance. Now, at least for this season, it's just trash. :

Which makes an excellent segue... OMG, I don't know why Hivy has such an irrational hatred of hatred of Michael, but that's exactly what it is: hatred. It's kind of frightening in a way because, as somebody pointed out, it's hatred based on disdain and contempt. A good shrink will tell you that that's how serial killers feel towards their victims. NOT that I'm saying Hivy will murder the rest of the contestants. But brother, it sure does make you wonder if something's not screwed on right with her...

Wretchen is just pathetic, and so I laugh at her. "Of course, they chose you, Michael. Mommy Heidi and Daddy Kors always loved you more. It's not fair! Wah wah wah" OMG, could you get any more childish? Who was it who compared her to a three-year-old? A more apt comparison I have yet to find...she goes along with Hivy because the latter vindicates her feelings of persecution.

What really, really disappoints me is that Andy and Mondo are getting sucked into this. I liked them. I don't know why Andy is doing this, except that maybe Gretchen seems "cool" after winning two challenges (and having a billboard put up) and so he wants to be associated with that. I suspect that Mondo is going along precisely because he was an outsider earlier. He's sucking up to the Mean Girls because it means now he's not the one who's outside anymore. Casanova has always been stubborn and independent and confident, so he doesn't need the approval of the Witches. In fact, the Witches probably have him in sight next precisely because of that. Good for him for being nice to Michael.

The really fascinating thing for me has been watching the power play between the Witches and the judges. The Witches seem to honestly believe that they know everything about fashion, that they are designing gods, etc. and the judges keep putting them in their place. Looks like it's going to happen again next week, according to the previews...my stars, you know their hatred is irrational when they try to throw Michael under the bus AGAIN when he has immunity AGAIN. Like I said, frightening but also fascinating...

Speaking of judging, I personally preferred Mondo's dress this week, but I would bet anything the judges picked MC just to slap the Witches down again. Kudos to MC, though, for creating a dress that deserved to be in the top. I like MC, but I do wish he would grow a backbone. Let's see, here's what I would have said when I walked backstage after winning, only to find the Witches glowering at me. "Well, girls, maybe I wasn't the best, but at least I was out there instead of back here with designers whose dresses were so boring they couldn't even make the Bottom Three." Since this is all about vanity, I bet the Witches would spit like angry cats.

p.s. About the rumor at the exhibition, two scenarios:

    a) Hivy really believed it, which only shows more delusional behavior on her part

    b) she was just being a classic Mean Girl and there never was a rumor. Pathetic, no class, and no talent. Did the Witches really honestly believe that after the show aired people would be banging down their door to hire them? If so, then that's just scary...

    Excellent post, babbred. Welcome!

While reading your post about Ivy's irrational hatred of Michael, I just had a thought about the rumor at the exhibition. I wonder if Ivy, upon seeing Michael's jar fill up with buttons and hers nearly empty, couldn't reconcile that in her mind. How could a great designer (her) not be rewarded with buttons while a crappy designer's (Michael) dress was loved? So she had to create a scenario that would explain the discordance: Michael must be turning people against her.

OK, after looking at the designs again, I think overall that Mondo should have won, followed by either April ( I too got an air hostess vibe with the front of it) or Christopher or Michael C (did NOT like the lace on top ) . Each had something I didn't like about it, but all had positives. I actually disliked Valerie's and Michael's more than Peach's. Although not by much. Ivy's would be next. I'm glad Gretchen fixed the side issue with her top. That was very unflattering and I think some of the designers were very lucky they had some extra time to tweak things. I mostly agreed with the rankings of the middle of the bunch.

For me, I dislike the drama that this last ep had. I just want to see the designs and the work. Not feel like I'm back in high school. I'm not going to call anyone names or insult their personalities. I want EVERYONE to put on their big boy/girl panties and act like professionals. I'm jumping off my soap box now. lol No more arguing for me tonight. Cheers!

I am really finding the drama detracting from my enjoyment of the show. Sure you want some interesting personalities and not everyone is going to be a fan favorite, but I really don't like seeing people's feelings hurt.

I don't like seeing the judges playing with their decisions just to "get back" at some designer they may not like and show them who the boss is. I think the judges are on more of a power trip than ever and I never like seeing that side of the judges or them trying to insert themselves into the story of the designers in order to get at someone.

It's all so petty and mean this season on all sides, even Tim and even between Tim and the judges.

I don't get how the judges choose some of these winners at all if they are looking for edgy and fashion forward as they say, then I think they are failing. Maybe they are just getting too old and judging young hip fashion is beyond them.

I seem to recall other seasons that had some oddball contestants who lacked a lot of formal training and/or sewing skills....
like the gal who marked her garments with spit??
a couple who were "artists" or "artistes" or whatever>?
And the flip side, some seasons had the hard working seamstress who never went to fashion school

yet all of those people were treated ok by other contestants, event the more crazy or flamboyant contestants...??

Never saw anyone treated the way they act towards Michael C, and he is really taking it well, not retaliating

He handeled Ivy's accusations in a very mature manner

I really hope Ivy goes...egotistical with nothing to back it up. I have not liked any of her designs.

Watching their rude silence when Michael came in with the win was sad.

I also find it amazing that Ivy and Gretchen are now going so far as to make remarks about the show /judges...just unreal

I wonder what's going on with Tim Gunn? He seems to be a bit "vocal" about his observations on things other than the designers' works-in-progress. Now, he was quoted in the Daily News that former subordinate at Liz Claiborne, Isaac Mizrahi, is a "terrible, terrible, terrible person". Hmmm...

I agree with you on many of these points and you are so right, it isn't the Project Runway we've all come to know and love. It has become more about the conflicts than about fashion talent.

At first, I was happy to see that the show was longer than before but now it seems like the only point to the extra length was to show immature emotional conflicts and not designs.

Don't understand the extreme dislike of Michael C. I thought Gretchen was awful at first but Ivy sure seems to be taking over the lead for meanest.

I was really surprised at Tim Gunn's speech about Gretchen. It really seemed out of character for Tim. I don't mind that Tim and the judges opinions differ so much this season. That's interesting to me but the anti-Gretchen speech came out of left field and I was shocked. Even if those were Tim's actual thoughts, it didn't ring true to me that he would express it out loud to the losing team. It seemed more like something a teacher would tell elementary grade students, who don't know any better but adults, in a competition??? Doesn't that show a bias of some sort??? Shouldn't he just allow them to make their own mistakes?
    I'm confused this season.

    Re: 9/2 Show Discussion *Spoilers*

Ivy and Valerie are horrible human beings on the inside.

No sooner had Wretchen slithered away or those two banshees were telling each other that Tim was actually right, and that Wretchen really needed to be brought down a peg.

Wait, but my dear, you're Wretchen's confidante, you're her best friend untill the sun goes cold and we're all forced to eat our children, you're Ivy and Valerie, paragorns of virtue and loyalty.

Me thinks they're ready to attack their wounded leader, canibalizing and usurping the throne. It makes Wretchen look all the more like a typical bully... she has her drones buzzing around who will aggree with her when she needs them to aggree with her, but who are only clinging to her because she's the obvious leader and it's easier to be the power behind the throne than to sit on it.

Wretchen is still too comfortable with the sound of her own voice, and she's too dense to see that she's been called out on it.

The other designers have rallied behind her, because it's easy to make Michael C into a scapegoat, the easiest target. If Mike C wasn't the victim, it would have been Casanova, in fact Casanova WAS the victim during the first couple of episodes, or at least the butt of their jokes. Casanova has retreated into the background, and he's keeping his mouth shut. I underestimated Casanova, I thought he was too infatuated with the camera, wanting to be an extravagant character, shouting and laughing and being obvious... but he's really reigned it in, he's been humbled by the runway and it suits him. He's now a lot more subdued and a lot more serious about what he's doing.

I really didn't like how April went off about Michael C last night. Complaining and too eager to jump on that band wagon. Miss "I think Wretchen is a little Dictator" seems a bit jealous that she isn't the one who's doing the dictating. April is jealous of Wretchen's position, but she's trying to play the group by following up on the Michael C hatred and animosity. She knows that if Wretchen ever were to fall from grace, the group will end up following her because she's shown to think the same as "the group".

We all know Ivy and Valerie aren't going to be the ones following Wretchen's position, because I don't think anybody respects those two, everybody sees them for what they are... annoying bees that just circle around the queen... or like the hyenas who circled around Scar in the Lion King.

I think that the producers might actually reveal that Michael C was a horrible person all this time... and that the recent wins have made him even more arrogant.

They might turn Wretchen around into a halfway decent person who has talent.

But right now, Michael C has built up so much freebies with me, that he's going to be able to get away with a whole lot of stuff. If he WAS badmouthing Ivy, I wouldn't blame him after the team threw him under the bus.
